Happy Monday! The 3DMM.com Movie of the Week is…..

Action Joe 2
by Jason Ruiz

Quote:
Action Joe 2 raises the ire of Santa Claus, gets framed for murder, and does plenty of action-y things while also being named Joe.

This movie is so old it literally has a Bill Clinton joke. This movie is so old it literally has a Bill Clinton joke that doesn't involve the Lewinsky scandal because that hadn't even happened yet.

Less than two years after 3dmm's release, in September 1997, a kid called Jason Ruiz (you may have heard of him) absolutely revolutionised the way this program was used with this movie. It seems very quaint now, but this was one of the first flicks to make use of frequent hand-made scenery, while also creating a lot of animation techniques used for action movies and raising the standards for flicks made within 3D Movie Maker. It also inspired a shift towards longer and bigger movies, and made 3dmm action synonymous with The Offspring and Song2 by Blur. An essential watch, simply for the history of it all.

Later this year Jason Ruiz released Action Joe 2, which is in many ways the precursor to most of todays action movies and quite possible the most influental 3DMM film ever created. The animation was years ahead of it's time and it was the first movie ever to feature a whole Offspring soundtrack. He begun work on a third one too, he even released a trailer for it, but unfortunately it got cancelled a few months later.

Cycles

This was originally part of a much longer and more serious project by Andres, but when he realised he wasn't going to finish it he took the footage and re-purposed it into this silly comedy. It's pretty fun.

The movie is directorially very well done. The big shots of the trees and the statues are really cool. The footrace and the fact that Klux wins for no real reason is kind of lame. I'm assuming that part was made at the point where Andres just wanted to release something of this. Zorn's line at the end of the race is something like "Well, alright whatever. I guess that's over." It may as well be Andres speaking.

Anyway, still a good movie!

After a day off alternating between not feeling very well and celebrating my mum's birthday, we are back!

The 3DMM.com Movie of the Week is…..

McZee - The Man Behind The Movies

Usually I rewatch these before making a comment, but for some reason none of Funny Bones' links are working for me right now. Anyway, esteemed 3dmm user Plopilpy called this 'one of the best films ever made', so you know its good!

Man in the movies wasn’t a typical movie but instead leaned on more of the documentation format of movies. It had a fair share of good animation and an interesting story to go along with it!

I think Flounder is basically the funniest 3dmmer, but I didn't really like this.

When I asked Plop to put this on the site, I thought he was going to make his own rip and put it on his channel. But he just posted this three-part, poor-quality video from 2009. Good work, Plop! Anyway, here's an extremely entertaining and well-animated video about various 3dmmers from 2001 beating the shit out of each other.
