The Search for Stanley
by Nathan Urquhart

Quote:
A violent man and his equally brutal associates go on a deranged hunt for Stanley, a man who wronged him long ago.

Video provided by Funny Bones

Original thread

A real blast from the past and possibly the funniest dark comedy ever made in 3dmm, with lots of great lines and a hilarious climax. Super NWS: full of curses and violence, this is the ultimate in Australian 3dmming. It owns.

Haha I hadn't seen that one before; it was good! Frank is a great character.

I'll post a slightly more detailed comment tomorrow since I'm about to go to bed.

That was an interesting movie. The animation isn't very good (though for 1999 it's probably fine) and the semi-use of default scenery along with the abundance of default music give it an unusual sort of "halfway between default and handmade" feel (I wish he had used a more custom music). As a result, the writing and voice acting are left to do the heavy lifting, and that's definitely where this movie shines. Frank's voice acting has got to be my favorite part of the movie. The way he casually delivers his lines every time works perfectly, with "Well that's too bad because anyone who marries Stanley deserves to die." being a standout example

The ending was pretty predictable; it was obvious that Stanley's unforgivable offense was going to be something extremely mild (that element reminded me of the early 3dmm classic "The Psychopathic Killer From Hell," in which the killer's murderous rampage stems from a similarly minor sleight). Still, the flashback, despite being able to be seen from a mile away, managed to be funny nonetheless. Frank as a child just being a tiny Augustin probably got the biggest laugh out of me in the whole movie. Other than that and the line I mentioned earlier, there weren't too many great laughs in the movie. More just a constant stream of small laughs.

Good movie!

Mean Bread's Totally Bitchin' Adventure

A funny and cute lil short from the early days of v3dmm. And one of the only times ever Demented Ferret actually released something.

I propose that the movie of the week also appear on the movie showcase on the home page if that's at all possible?

I don't think Space Goat would ever do something on a whim like that, but if he's reading this, I support the above post!

Quite enjoyed that animation! It's simple and has a nice plot and style. I like the single cell shaded backgrounds, it gives it a nice bit of depth without sacrificing the overall style and the voice acting fits the characters.

The only problem with this is potentially splitting discussion between the original thread and this thread. Otherwise it would rule
