Thoughts on 3dmm this year?

What are your thoughts on 3dmm this year in terms of the community/movies?

theres active ppl and even supermoderators who cant bring themselves to watch and comment on our months long efforts for the contest, i think the people who actually care it’s been a good year of improving but some others can suck a brighton rock.

also its pretty annoying that BR made everyone leave and now has left himself

^ What he said. Contest was fun and all, but I won't be entering or creating anything unless this place becomes more active. Currently there's no point in devoting time to projects.

My thoughts on 3DMM this year (the program, not the community):

It's seen some love and care. Despite the infantile spam and blabber from Martin/Gregory, and the horrible movies put out by sbspfan/the other ignorant noobs who say "it's supposed to be bad", the movies have been great. Red fucking slamdunked the boundries of this program, holmstrom returned and utterly shattered our brains with some gifs he posted in the discord, and the contests showcased a lot of impressive filmmaking.

Long live 3DMM!

The Best year for 3dmm is is when we do contests I participate starting with "Plopilpy gets brutally murdered", My favourite contest is Augustin Burger one, even doing contest movies is such a great move.

I think a lot of people did cool stuff with 3dmm this year, especially me with my contest reviews. I liked Nixon’s movies and the contests and it was def the best year in a long time, and that’s with me still having to see a lot of the most highly-rated films

I can easily see how it would be frustrating to work hard on the movie and then not have people really appreciate it or pay attention. I guess one thing to remember is that most non-noob 3dmmers are early-middle aged dudes with jobs, families, etc. The people mostly participating in the movie competitions are noobs (and red scarpian). And they're also mostly the ones commenting, chatting in the discord, etc.

Anyway, wtf is augustin burger? I've seen that word before and i don't get it, is this some autistic in-joke that i missed? The "Kill Plopilpy" one had a theme that was immediately funny and offers an immediate creative prompt. I think that's partly why it was popular. Plus there was only a few submissions and most of the submissions were really good. You probably can't expect that kind of response every single time... sad but might just be the truth. If you're using a 30 year old obscure software to make movies hoping they will get tons of clicks and engagement then you might be barking up the wrong tree.

Anyway in terms of actual 3dmm this year, I have to say i've been way more engaged with the 3dmm side of things than before (which is to say, engaged in any way). It's mostly just due to occasionally browsing the 3dmm discord when I'm bored. There's been some pretty cool stuff that's come out this year, with Renegades from Old Rivers which I really enjoyed, the Kill Plopilpy contest which was awesome, I think maybe Spook House Massacre part 2 came out this year...??? trying to remember, the years are blending together more and more. The Day the Planet Turned to Broken Glass was confusing but interesting and showed promise. I also enjoyed Red's submission for the Augustin contest, and not just because I was singing over the credits.

On the social side of things, it's been really fun too, with the 3dmm jeopardy contests, the one i attended was a blast. The discords seem to be humming along fine. There's been some gaming in Forza and Chiv 2, some online poker nights, lots of jokes and goofs and good times.
