Any regular posters here of drinking age? What's your drink?

I've pretty much stopped experimenting these days.

My last experiment was Mead, and it was delicious.

So these days, it's Banrock Station Crimson Merkit wine, Mercury apple or raspberry ciders and rum. Preferably Bundaberg Red.

Google the mentioned products o guess, they should give pretty apt descriptions.

Why is America pick 21 as a drinking age instead of 20 or 18? In Germany, people my age can drink so I want to move to Germany.

Oakheart Spiced Rum with Coke is easily a favourite of mine. I only drink at social events now though - weddings, birthdays etc.

Before that, it was the typical Vodka w/ Energy drink - the thought of which now makes me feel sick.

Mix anything remotely light and sweet with vodka. I'm a very poor minded man.

I mostly drink beer, mostly I just drink cheap shit but when im feeling fancy I prefer czech beers, or brown ales, nut ales, etc.

I got into bourbon for a couple years after I went on a distillery tour through kentucky but then I went to scotland and I got into scotch instead. So now I prefer scotch. I don't really go for the peaty stuff, I prefer a smooth clean taste.

I buy a couple bottles of good single malt every weekend also red and white wine also beer and gin too of its nice outside.
If i happen to stumble into a place that looks like it makes decent cocktails I'll order a negroni or a new york sour or a long island ice tea.. actually this is pointless ill drink nearly anything.

I don't like bourbon and im not a big fan of cognac really.

Dungeon snake reccomended rye whiskey one time and the one i tried (rhittenhouse 10) was pretty good but they just don't sell it in england if one of those advertisement spiders that crawl the web end up here then a market has just opened up being me and my iron liver.

Big fan of a Negroni or a Gin and Tonic. Also can't go wrong with Mead.

rittenhouse is pretty good and then I also like Bulleit Rye. There's also this one they make around here called Old Grandad which is pretty cheap & good, very spicy.

I got myself a bottle of Oban for my birthday which was pretty good. I may get Dalwhinnie next on Mong's recommendation

I mostly drink bourbon (Evan Williams because it's cheap, but Elijah Craig is also very good for the price) or sometimes beer (either Bud Light Platinum because it's 6% and low in carbs, or the 9.5% "Monkey" beers from Victory). I drink to get drunk, with priority on avoiding carbs to stop from getting fat now that I'm older and less resistant to alcohol induced weight gain. I only drink 1-2 nights a week, on the weekend. A big part of my social life is bonfires or sitting by a stove fire in colder months. Sitting around drinking, smoking, bullshitting, listening to music. I'm content to do this for the rest of my life.

I'll try virtually any alcohol or mixed drink though. I like Moscow Mules as a treat in the summer. Or a gin and tonic. I even drank a fifth of PA Dutch eggnog in one sitting a few winters ago, which was disgusting, in retrospect. Again, for extended sessions, my focus is cheap, effective, and low in carbs, so generally inexpensive bourbon.

I've not found a scotch I like yet, but then I've also not tried many. I've had the common ones - Johnny Walker and Dewars - neither of which I enjoy too much. I also tried Glenlivet and Glenfiddich a while ago but can't remember what I thought of them. I'm not sure if it's peat, but I absolutely loathe the pencil shavings taste present in Johnny Walker and Dewars. I never gag or vomit from alcohol and I've drank those scotches numerous times, but something about the taste got to me a few months ago, and I felt my mouth watering uncontrollably like I was about to throw up. I wouldn't mind trying a scotch that doesn't taste anything like the ones I mentioned and also isn't terribly expensive (less than $50 a bottle, ideally around $30 is my price point to try something new I may not like).

I think Bowmore 12 Years Old Islay Single Malt is $50 or under in USA. Its like $63 here.

One of my favourites.

It's Islay, so it is peaty.

Peat is a moss, so its flavour is more of wet earth and smoke. The pencil shaving flavour is probably from the casks, so you taste all that WOOD.

It's honestly probably peat and I'm not describing it properly, as the review I read for Dewars mentions the peat flavor being overwhelming, which is the predominate thing I taste. Isn't most whisky aged in wood barrels? I've consumed virtually every type - bourbon, rye, blended shit - and only notice this gross flavor in scotch.

I didn't think Dewars was peated. Huh.

And yeah all whiskey is barrel aged. Scotch is typically aged in used bourbon barrels, or sherry and stuff.

Some scotch is aged in new or young/cheap/barely used oak barrels and you just get a lot of WOOD in it and I don't like that flavour.

It is, apparently. While I can't be sure that's the flavor I dislike, it does seem to be the main ingredient difference between scotch and all other whiskys I've ever had.

I'll buy a non peated scotch and report back. If I still think scotch tastes like shit, then it's something else, and I just don't like scotch. Which is fine because I've been slamming bourbon for years and it's never done me wrong, and it's way cheaper.

I'm not sure who has access to Victory beer as it's local to me but does sell nationwide in the United States, from what I understand. If you can find it, this is widely available right now and it's tasty, not to mention high in alcohol content:

I'm kinda the opposite i can't stomach bourbon because it's too sweet for me and tends to repeat on me all night, in not sure what this taste you experience is but peaty scotch is unmistakably smokey like literally smells like a bonfire the most common peaty one is Laphroaig.
I've tasted a couple very old and expensive ones before that were like rusty nail flavour tbh

I mean, don't trust my palate. I mix bourbon and water, mainly. I am notoriously inept at tasting flavors in stuff like alcohol or coffee, and think some of the overly complex descriptions of those things are bullshit. I tried some locally sourced expensive coffee today and it basically tasted like what I buy at Wawa. A very expensive bottle of liquor would be utterly wasted on me.

I did not enjoy scotch until I had Laphroaig at a bar once. From that night there was just like a switch flipped in my head and "oh fuck I get it now" and now I love a lot of scotches, even the bottom shelf shite ones.

A mixed drink I've become quite fond of, the name I do not remember, is scotch, a bit of St Germaine, bitters of your choice, and a bit of syrup, served in a rocks glass with the biggest ice cube you got. Wonderful crisp refreshing summer drink.

I bought a Johnny Walker Black Label a few years back to try and appreciate expensive stuff (that was a big expense back then), but it was pretty gross. I still don't "get" them.

I'm going to lean into beer 9 times out of 10. It's easier on the palate, I can appreciate the nuances, and there's more variety.

That said, I've developed a taste for mezcal (tequila still tastes gross to me, though). It's got a wonderfully smoky flavor, and I like it on the rocks or with Coke. It's also nice that you definitely get what you pay for with that-- never go with the $20 bottle. The worm is also tacky (and added in later for silly tourists), so go with a nice $40 bottle and you're set.
