3dmm featured in PC PowerPlay magazine

Not my pic so I can't get a higher quality picture. Saw it on Twitter. Apparently it's an Australian magazine or something

I saw 3DMM in a windows 95 launch promo, 5 years before I joined the community.

Just a few months ago, I saw the same footage of McZee and 3DMM being used on NatGeo's internet history show. It was unrelated, but still used to represent windows 95 and that time period.

Comic Sans first appeared in 3D Movie Maker? That's pretty incredible!

Also how weird is it that there's a magazine called Powerplay, which features 3DMM?

Nice find! Is this a recent issue? Can't be too terribly old based on the twitch reference. Also, uh, was whoever took the picture sitting on the toilet at the time? Sure looks like it.

And wtf, McZee isn't blue!!

The Gman is from Half Life Alyx which came out not too long ago so I’d say this is fairly recent

It's so mindblowing hearing 3DMM described as a "brilliant piece of software" by someone who doesn't even know about this entire underground community for it.

Imagine this magazine being like "and one of the greatest places to relive your 3D Movie Maker memories is 3dmm.com - a forum dedicated to the use and movie making community based around this program".

Um, yeah, what? I've never heard of that.

so is this like a new issue of the magazine? like what's the date on that issue?

It's weird that they mention "our own Coconut Monkey" in the article. Coconut Monkey was the mascot of PC Gamer, who would apear on the game demo CDs.

Unless PC PowerPlay is owned by the same company, or maybe shared rights over the character or something like that, I'm not sure what's going on here, maybe that's actually a PC Gamer magazine?

because "PC Gamer coconut monkey" definitely brings up search results and "PC PowerPlay coconut monkey" doesn't.

PC Power play had it's last issue years ago. Like not long after I finished high school.

There's this article from April 6th this year

https://www.pcgamer.com/pretending-t...udio-for-kids/

Every link says it's from Pc Gamer.

The heading is always "Pretending to be Pixar in 3D Movie Maker, Microsoft's weird 1995 animation studio for kids".

I can't find any copies of the article with those pictures tho, or any mentions of it in a magazine... and PC powerplay died in 2005. I used to buy it!

Weird...

I ended up buying the digital copy of this issue and it looks like its just a section called "Legends" where they dedicate a few pages to classic games. One page is Half-Life 2, another is Lemmings, and then 3dmm

someone at PC Gamer must be reading Foone's Twitter.
