Pronouns

Do you use pronouns on your social media profiles? He/Him, She/Her, They/Them and all the others.

What's your thoughts? Why do you/don't you use them?

I chose no because I just never got around to really doing it. Usually when I make my bios I put 5 seconds of thought into it.

yes, i’ve only met a couple of trans people in my life but when you’re actually in person with another human just requesting the consideration of something that makes them feel more like themself, you’d have to be a mean person to mislabel them on purpose

I should've been clearer, my bad. Do you use pronouns on your own social media? Do you feel the need to inform other people of your pronouns online? If so, why?

It's a courtesy to use the correct pronouns in person, understandly.

I don't declare my pronouns when I introduce myself, if that's what you're asking.

I'm also not the kind of person who states what pronouns to use when writing a bio.

Ah, my bad.

I would say it's because it's pointless to clarify that you're in an overwhelming majority group. It would be like introducing yourself as a "non-dentist." The only time it seems appropriate to inform people of your pronouns is if you're some one for whom it isn't automatically obvious. Like one of those sexless looking "in the middle" types.

Pretty much.

I've been operating under the assumption that using "they" is acceptable.

I'm okay with avoiding gender descriptions. I'd rather not get into confrontations about 'em. Bigger fish to fry.

Using them if you're not queer/enby/trans/etc is a great way to normalize the practice hth

Normalize it for what? Genuinely curious to hear your thoughts. I ask because there's certain folk here who believe that by not adding our pronouns we're inadvertently causing the suicide/murder of trans people. Safe to say, I'd rather hear what rational people think of pronoun use on social media.

Rivers and I Am Your God are the two I agree with, personally.

There are, most of them are just banned for not pandering to current narratives.

I'm not essentially denying that bullies don't lead trans people to suicide or etc., but I don't think that a misused/ "correctly" used pronoun is the major factor keeping a trans individual from slashing their arteries. I bet it takes a whole lot more than that, generally.

I blame a lack of mental health treatment more than I'll ever blame some douche triggering someone with kindergarten level putdowns.

my view is that pronouns are a way to express your gender/orientations. not using pronouns isn't "killing a generation", it's just not using a pronoun.

what rivers said too, saying "he/him" is pointless because there are 19 bajillion other accounts who are male and 19 bajillion other accounts who are female.

so like, assume nobody cis put their pronouns down

now you can safely assume that everyone who does list their pronouns is queer/trans/whatever and immediately other them based on that

By listing pronouns, even if you're a cishet white male, you're normalizing the practice and making more people comfortable with coming out with their preferred pronouns without fear of being othered
