AIM actually sort of works today.

So I was browsing my profile setting out of boredom today, and I noticed the AIM name slot in the user CP. I wondered "How hard would it be to get AIM on Windows 10?" and promptly searched for a solution. I stumbled upon this cool thingy called "Phoenix", made by this game development company. It's totally free, and it emulates AIM pretty much perfectly (albeit it's missing some features since it's in a beta). You can't claim your old account since this uses its own servers, but you can still register on their website and hope that nobody claimed that username yet.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Download AIM 6.1 using their mirror. Run setup.

2. Download the Phoenix Client and run setup for it as well. Now just use your registered account info, and presto!

Congrats, you're now running AIM!

AIM is still the best chat client to exist, but with today’s video and link embedding I think it would be outdated

The UI design is still superior tho

Steam is probably the closest thing, but steam still has some issues

As for Phoenix, id be more comfortable using it if I knew which company was reading my messages and selling my info

Phoenix just manages the servers, Phoenix is from a company called Wildman Productions. Phoenix simply requires you to install AIM, and it'll act as the man-in-the-middle, connecting to its own servers and allowing you to still send messages over AIM 5.9 or 6.1. Older versions don't work with Phoenix's chat client.

MKAY UPDATE:

You don't even need the Phoenix desktop client, you can use any version of AIM and just set the server address to phoenixim.ddns.net with the port 5190.

Presto! As long as you register with the phoenix website, you can use AIM with your new and improved phoenix account.
