Phantom of the Woods

This was my first full length feature movie. It was filmed in 2012 and first released a year later. It was made on a very low budget and a lot of favors. It’s old now, but still proud of it despite the limitations, and my team and I learned a lot on this which set us up for subsequent projects. (My company has filmed 4 more features and over 30 shorts since we made this)

And a little interesting thing about this movie is it’s loosely based on my old 3dmm movie Gnomes. The story is completely different and the gnomes were swapped out for an evil spectre, but the setting and a few of the major characters have counterparts in the original 3dmm movie.

Got lots of behind the scenes videos for this. Here’s a video covering the first day of shooting. Will post further entries soon.

Pretty sure a few others already did. Actually the short I made just before Phantom was a straight up remake of another old 3dmm movie I made. (Although I think I like the 3dmm version better)

It always warms my heart to see 3dmm directors turning into actual film directors. It's like.... they took their skills in directing with a limited kids software, and used that to make actual films. It's cool. This is another reason why I want to make actual films, and why I wanna study film directing.

More behind the scenes! This day was fun because of the location. It’s an old rock quarry that filled in with water over time to become a lake. It’s private property so we feel fortunate to be allowed access to it. We just filmed there again for a different project.

This movie was good and it has nothing to do with the thousands of dollars the director gave me to say that.
