The vaccine is here

Wow, that was quick research. Maybe too quick. Will you get vaccinated?

I dunno, I'm not that concerned about it. I was originally not going to get it, but finding out that it doesn't have any live/dead cells makes me less worried and skeptical about getting it. Whatever, just another thing they stick me with; I might breathe it in otherwise anyway.

I donated blood last week to see if I have Covid antibodies and it came back negative.

I'm getting it. No need to put my family in danger because I would refuse to get one.

Your family wouldn't even give you $20 to post on Cosmic Cafe. At this point, you pretty much owe it to them to infect them with Coronavirus.

Nah, the long term is unknown territory. Pfizer (and other vaccine creators) have been given protection from legal action too.

Give it to the old folks and cripples first, then ask me again in a decade.

The problem is that they would notice if I linked some moolah out of my bank account, which they manage. It's where I keep my funds from doing summer chores for my neighbours and stuff. Also 20 dollars is a lot of money to get into a forum which I could be banned from if the owner decides that I'm not fit.

To add to all of this, it's Christmas and throughout 2020 the paper company has been cutting my pay significantly so I'm getting paid less.

As a first responder I'll most likely be forced to take it. But I would probably get it anyway. Who gives a shit, long term effects, or covid, I don't really give a fuck if I get either one. Just want this bullshit to be over and do e so I can go back to normal life

I'm not getting it unless I'm forced. I'm just annoyed I should have to. It's very clear covid precautions don't matter if they cause corporations to lose money, otherwise we'd still be in phase 1

I think it’s shady but even discussing the conspiracy side of vaccines is dumb. People will let the government inject them with whatever cocktail they dream up no questions asked, so long as the media tells them it’s safe. There’s not enough nay sayers to sway public opinion, so eventually the anti vaxxers will have to get injected just to avoid being shamed and ostracized from society.

I dont think you should be forced, but I like the idea of giving someone 1500$ to take it.

Why? What do you think is the downside?

They're estimated to be $15 - $35 (different companies) but you'll need two different pricks (so you'll have to pay that twice), a few months apart I'm assuming. Biden and Trump both said they will make it free, though.

Probably nothing, but it doesn't matter because it's not about my safety. It's another excuse for everyone involved to make a shit-ton of cash. Even if the government pays for the dose of vaccine, we'll probably still get shafted with administrative costs like we do with anything. Here's a little rundown of how people in power have handled covid thusfar, a list of reasons no one gives a shit about safety when there's money to be had

1. Covid was predicted not long after SARS, but nobody bothered preparing because there's no money in it.
2. Covid hits, and in March the CARES act was passed, which was the largest upward transfer of wealth in world history. (stimulus checks + unemployment boost for proles were added as something for politicians to hide behind)
3. And at this time, the economy closed. Immediately, the discussion was whether this was right or wrong; is the invariable Dow plunge worth a few thousand lives?
4. 100,000 small businesses were wiped out in the next three months, and big business used their stimulus money to buy up bankrupted assets. (As if this couldn't have been predicted... Could you possibly have a bigger white-collar scandal??)
5. The CARES act also provided government funding to cover covid medical expenses. So we don't even know the true number of covid cases since there's undoubtedly been fraud committed by hospitals and medical care providers wanting guaranteed payment in full
6. Then the BLM riots and covid protests happened which, under these circumstances, should've been ignored so people don't get the idea it's OK to go outside or mingle (for the same reason you don't show a guy running onto the field during a baseball game). And it's at this point people stopped taking the lockdown too seriously, because it was bad for ratings.
7. Covid cases are going up and up, and arbitrarily it's time to reopen the economy (because the CARES act had its intended effect)
8. Republicans then introduced legislation that shielded businesses from liability if employees get sick. Why is this necessary if opening the economy is safe?? Why is this necessary if businesses are prioritizing safety?? Because they're not and don't intend to
9. Then the CARES act expired and banks starting kicking people out of their homes (hard to quarantine when you're being foreclosed on). Congress GOES ON VACATION with nothing new passed.
10. Trump issues an executive order for another eviction freeze and an extension of UI, which is nice. Congress goes on vacation AGAIN with nothing passed.
11. October rolls along. The White House offers Pelosi something like $2.2 trillion, and she turns it down because it would make Trump look good to have his name on a check, so hurting Trump in the election is evidently more important than helping Americans pay their bills so they can stay home. (Can't be sure the bill would have passed the Senate anyway)
12. Now finally there's a new bipartisan compromise bill being considered that might pass. It doesn't include stimulus checks even though apparently 125 economists signed off on a letter to Congress saying that's what the economy needs right now. Economists also agree paying people to stay home would've been the best course of action to contain the virus.

Stopping covid has been an abject failure, a total dereliction of duty for everyone involved. The window to contain covid is closed forever; it's out of control. The partial economic shutdown we're in now is utterly pointless and is only making things more difficult for people to keep their heads above water. I've been working in public since June and my employer told us not to get tested if we're asymptomatic, because a positive test means you can't work.

So now I'm supposed to drive over to a clinic for a needle stick to "do my part" to prevent the spread of covid?? Excuse me but fuck you.
