Exactly, it seems like "fat yelly tweaker" is always the punchline. Not just unfunny but downright annoying and cringey. That's why I can't stand Sam Kinison either.

I do think Will Ferrell is funny, but not nearly as much as when I was a kid.

Yeah he was only funny in billy madison & I mostly feel that way because I had some irl encounters with similar bus drivers. John Candy on the other hand was a real actor & didnt completely rely on clown acts, way better than farley

I definitely have more respect for will ferrel as an actor after watching Everything Must Go

ive never seen that so maybe i would have more respect for him if i did. i agree, john candy is way better. He's still an actor who basically performs for kids but at least he's good at it.

All these actors... will ferrel, john candy, chris farley, adam samdler, jack black, jim carrey... they're basically performing for children. theyre the cinematic equivalent of Teletubby or Blues Clues. If it makes children laugh, you know what??? Good for them. It's just Teletubbies for 10-13 year olds. Children like watching a goofy guy moving around a lot and using a crazy voice. No harm in that, but if you like that stuff as an adult then maybe you're just a moron

Did you ever see Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny? I love that movie, and for that alone Jack Black is forever good in my book.

Chris Farley is one of those rare figures where criticisms say more about the person making the critique... For example when someone says Chris Farley is unfunny, you know that person hates their life and wishes they were dead

I think you might be on to something there. The only reason he was ever popular and still remembered fondly is because of a bunch of people who have lived lives of roses and sunshine and never experienced a moment of self-loathing. People who have ever felt that way, however, can recognize that same feeling being expressed in almost all of Chris Farley's "comedy," and it's just sad rather than funny.

Ok, I'm vamping a bit. Post some clips where he's funny, you might be able to change my mind, haven't actually seen all that much stuff he's done.

What? Dude he was funny and likable when we were young. You’re not gonna think he’s hilarious today.

I liked the living in a van behind the river skit.

That's actually the skit I was thinking of when I started this thread. But I don't remember ever seeing Chris Farley in anything when I was a kid so that might be the problem.

Well anyway that whole shtick is ok, it’s kind of like a known shtick that fat comedians do I guess, but it works for me

Chris Farley isn’t like hilarious to me or but I never really thought he was cringe either

Haha true but I think Candy sort of despised the perpetual clown act and wanted to move on to roles with more substance. Planes, Trains, & Automobiles is my favorite candy movie and a good example. Other actors in this category may feel the same way but not all can pull it off. For example, I can't accept Jim Carey or Sandler in "serious" roles. Them being serious on screen would ruin the movie. Candy & Ferrel can pull it off though imo. Weird how your mind creates those categoric rules for movies

So what do you when a farley type arrives at your doorstep & demands you respect him? You do what Candy would do:

That's interesting. I don't like Jim Carrey's comedy at all but I love Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine, so I'd say I'm the opposite there.

I thought his dramatic role with the girl from titanic was awkward. Jim Carey seems like the type of actor to suicide 5 years from now because people casually made too many Dumb & Dumber references to him in public
