Adult Cartoon Tier List Challenge

Made With TierMaker

Note: I used every adult cartoon that available to put on the list. But just because I did doesn't mean you have to

Note 2: Another show I really love was The Cyanide And Happiness Show but the list didn't had it as a option

Note 3: I like toast

Of the ones that I've seen, I mostly agree with your list. The exceptions being I think you're too kind to Family Guy/American Dad and too unkind to Archer.

Neat concept l!

Haha okay I'm kind of digging this tier making website.

I went ahead and did presidential candidates, star wars movies, and dylan albums:

Nice to be able to organize my library of Opinions About Cartoons

Organized most to least likely to rewatch, from left to right.

Do you actually not like the simpsons, or is it that low because the seasons after 10/11 sink the average?

Sink the average to the point where it's hard to think of it as a good show. Hard to place that one. It spent like 15 years being the funniest show on television period, but it has also spent 20 years straight being an unwatchably bad show. I don't know how you quantify that, but I would say that is categorically a show that is not consistently good, and has aged extremely unevenly. If I could delineate eras of The Simpsons, they'd all be on different spots on the list. Family Guy has a similar thing, where it has been like four or five very distinct versions of the same show with very different writing and concept sensibilities over it's lifetime. The difference is, even with the newest, shittiest family Guy episodes, usually I'll get one belly laugh somewhere in that episode, even if everything around it is garbage. Can't say the same for The Simpsons, a lot of episodes just get along on chuckles and nods, even some of the "good ones".

I'll definitely admit you made me rethink its place on the list, and I'm definitely more likely to re-watch it then I am like disenchantment or dilbert, but when somebody asks me, point blank, what do I think of The Simpsons, my first thought is watching a modern theme song sequence and being really uncomfortable with the whole thing.

name sharing aside classic simpsons and modern simpsons are two very different entities, while the shit now outnumbers the gems, the gems are so fucking good it's impossible for me to not consider the show top tier because those episodes set the standard for pretty much every adult animated series today and still outclass most if not all of them.

Yeah, I agree with this. I would say classic Simpsons is far and away the funniest show ever on television. For me, when people say "the Simpsons", i'm assuming they're talking about classic Simpsons unless they specify otherwise. So when I see somebody rate the Simpsons as "inconsistent" it's strange to me, but also I get it if you've actually watched the later seasons. I haven't watched new episodes in 15 years, I have no idea what the show is like nowadays and I don't care to find out. But I still watch classic episodes (even up to season 13 or so) on an almost-daily basis.

Like, it's cool that you guys have pretended the show stopped being made in 2000. Everybody basically did, we all saw it was bad, most people stopped watching, the people who still watched it got to enjoy it in peace, and the cast have gotten 20 years of job security and fat checks, which they deserve for having made the good seasons. It's not a bad arrangement compared to how these things usually go.

It comes down to the age-old question "how much do you separate an artist's best work in their prime from the longer, more disappointing arc of their overall career?", which is different for everybody. Its harder for me to ignore. Good stuff is still good, but I spent a lot of years watching Fox and being pissed off every time a preview of that week's Simpsons came on lookin terrible. And the movie! Remember the fuckin movie? That thing went a long way toward making sure that, when I thought of the Simpsons, I thought of charmlessly clean CG-assisted animation, pointless stakes-devoid marital drama, and having to cling to the one gag that made you chuckle so you can last the 20 minutes until the next funny bit.

Aged bad. Refuses to die. Too good in it's prime to ignore it putting out 20 years of shitball misunderstandings of what made it work in the first place. Prequel trilogy made Star Wars worse as a whole, same thing here.

And that's why I put The Simpsons low on my personal arbitrary tier list.
