I'm going to check this out soon. I need to install 3DMM first tho. Anyone know where to find an easy installation of that?

more people are getting into 3DMM, hopefully we can get a full version of this (or a preview) with a new rendering engine sometime next year!

Hi Jayrod, I believe we did a project together called Stranded that we never finished. Is there anyway to retrieve that trailer, re-master it and then re-release it alongside the first major update for this?

Here is an early release of the new rendering engine. It isn't entirely complete but I wanted to give you something tangible.

Features:
- Bilinear interpolated textures
- Anti-aliasing
- Smooth per-pixel shading

Incomplete:
- MTRLs that are shaded using indexed colors will appear white atm, need to work on this!
- Scene previews in scene organizer get messed up due to the new 32-bit render targets
- Transitions are broken

Leave some comments if you find anything else out of the ordinary!

Edit: I forgot because I was rushing but also when playing movies, some stationary objects disappear. 3dmm does that as a 90s hack for better performance. I need to find where it’s doing this.

Sweet!

I notice when you bring a model into the camera (actor, prop, or 3D word) I get a Hall of Mirrors effect as I drag it around.

Not sure if it'll affect animation/playback I didn't try.

So I can only get it to do this while positioning a static model.

It does not happen during animating or playback, so it's probably a screen refresh/clear issue.

When I get it to look like that, opening/closing a window fixes it. Or going forward/back a frame.

awesome!
are there ways to make it work with v3dmm currently?

Evil Ash: yeah you’re right I think. I’ll need to change it to refresh the entire 3D view instead of how 3dmm is doing it in sections. Nowadays this shouldn’t be an issue performance-wise.

LuNine: currently no but this is the next step after the engine is stable enough!

No luck under Linux yet. I'm probably missing a library.
Is it just me or are there no bounding boxes? Anyway, great stuff!

At the moment there are no bounding boxes. It should be simple enough to add in though.

Looks great. I'm liking the crispness and subtle shadow/lighting stuff. The biggest improvement I'm noticing though is that the texture warping thing is no longer a problem. Textures seem to look fine no matter where they're positioned (until clipping into the camera at which point I get the same effect as Evil Ash). Great work!

Does "new rendering engine" mean we might be able to have higher resolutions soon?

I imagine it would probably be possible to use PNGs other than BMPs with limited color, hopefully.

@Compcat Yes! High resolutions are coming along with a resizable window.

@LuNine I'll be adding new file formats after compatibility for v3dmm. A new 'Open3dmm' format will be created to classify movies that use new formats.

v3dmm is the priority though. I want to make transitioning projects to Open3dmm as painless as possible and pretty much every 3dmmer uses v3dmm.

Only thing I noticed so far on the new renderer is Gregory's default hat is white with no texture for some reason.

@LuNine correct. This as well as the issue regarding the viewport have been addressed. Will include with the next release!

This looks interesting. So even old 3dmm clips can be played?
Would there ever be a way to insert custom made models/ textures? Good job so far!

that's exactly what v3dmm does for regular 3dmm, and he's said earlier in the thread that getting this to work with that is the next step

if interpolation between frames gets implemented, how would things like the explosion animation work? since that's a sphere, but on the next frame it's a different model altogether

I don't think tweening is a feature that will be added. That'd rework the foundations of how 3dmm works. It'll still be a frame by frame animator.

He said bilinear texture interpolation. Maybe you got confused.
