DRAWIN' THREAD

So I have got myself an Ipad and Apple Pencil, which is good because I am now entering STAGE 3 OF LIFE and seem to be evermore glued to the couch instead of the computer.

In a very unusual twist for me, I have also become a sportsing blogger. I don't know very much about sports (this one is NFL), but I felt that it would be the best opportunity for me to reach a very large audience. Although it was a bit odd at the start, I've begun to find more of a groove. Basically, because I can't speak intelligently about the games themselves, I've moved into more of a satirical mode where I essentially copy and paste news stories and add some images that lampoon the players.

Beyond that, I'm always working on my side projects and books. There's a lot of sketching to go around!

Oh, and I found an animation app that is fun to play around with.

great stuff man! I particularly like the sailed sauropod, love the lines you added to really emphasize the weight of the creature. nice to see you're still drawing toad at any opportunity, his design is almost nostalgic for me

Thanks, guys!

Here's some others that were made in the last few days.

The frog (Toad) is generally the first thing I draw in a new format, as it helps me get used to new variables. I generally then do something with a defined design, Vegeta here, as a bit of a warm-up. This one is just a remake of the version above.

In the end, I'm generally happiest with my cartoon designs, as they're really what I enjoy most of all anyhow. I do not think of myself as much of a standard artist/illustrator, perhaps because I can see how much better so many thousands of people are than I am. I know it takes a lot of time and work to really REALLY figure out anatomy and make comic book-worthy images. Cartoons are a simpler medium, and one that I better understand the dos-and-don'ts.

Either way, I'd like to say that it's all hobby stuff, but I am getting paid for some of it. Makes me want to quit the day job and really dive in, because I get a lot more enjoyment out of making art than, well, making money. For now, I'll try to keep the balance!

Nice stuff. I like the dino drawings. You should draw Mickey Mouse if he was a real mouse.

The frog picture reminds me of Kaeloo to some extent.

Lock 'n Load was a household classic way before whatever this is.

He did come a long way! Though, in my defense, I gave him his original name when I was 10:

how is it that you're getting paid for some of this? it's all great work of course, but none of it really seems like something people would order as a paid commission, or that could be used on some commercial product or anything.

Yeah, it's the best kind of paid: I kind of just choose whatever I want to do.

haha geez you definitely undersold that, I thought you just meant you were trying to get some personal blog off the ground. you write for SB Nation's Chargers blog?? man that's awesome. I've been regularly reading the Mariners equivalent for like a decade.

but uh...why the hell do you follow the Chargers? aren't you from PA? or did you just see this opening somewhere and say fuck it, I'm a Chargers fan now?

Hahah, is this true, Goro? Why is there so many 3dmmer's specifically from Pennsylvania? I live there, and if I recall correctly, Lord Blazer does too. We should do a PA 3dmmer meetup someday.

and now that I know we have a 3dmm.com CHARGERS INSIDER, I'm curious: are there still a lot of San Diego fans hanging around? or did they mostly immediately abandon and shun the team when they moved like St. Louis Rams fan? seems like it might help that they can still plausibly make it to home games

Haha, thanks!

Sorta both: I'm originally from San Diego, so the only games I ever went to in my life were Padres and Chargers. That was like 25 years ago, but still. I had become much more of an Eagles fan because, well, proximity, but yeah- I saw an opening and went for it. Basically, 90% of the writers quit because the team moved, and I thought "well, the bar's gonna be real low." I don't really know anything about the Xs and Os. I was correct in my assumption!

And the Chargers fan base jokes are accurate. There are no fans. It is the smallest fanbase in the entire NFL, and I also think 28 or perhaps all MLB teams have more fans.

The remaining fans are San Diego fans, generally like me who have moved away and so can 'stomach' the move more easily. They can still follow the team and don't necessarily feel led to die on the San Diego hill. There are no new fans, which is an important note. Not one new fan was added by the move, just 80-90% of the previous fan base was lost.

It was a mind-numbingly shockingly stupid move, and I can't stress that enough. It was so poorly thought out and executed that most assumed the plan was to inflate the team value for sale. Nope. They just thought that they'd be able to rein in the LA media market AND keep San Diego/Mexico.

There was not a regular season game last year where the Chargers were inside of the top 4 NFL games watched in LA that week, according to Neilson.

So, yes, with all of that said, it's an easy gig because SB Nation wants a blog for each team, but there's only like 100 posters in that one.

interesting! honestly I'm kinda pleased to hear it's gone so badly for them (even if it's in part because LA is kinda embracing the Rams...)

Yeah, I was really hoping they would suck last year because the NFL was really considering booting them from LA. In all likelihood, they probably would've just forced the owner to sell the team to someone in another city to save face. But now that ship has sailed with their 'success' last year

I took care of him a year ago in Philly. Because everyone knows all Pennsylvanians live in Philly.
