Toon Boom Animation Dumping Ground

hey guys

so I recently got a perpetual license for toon boom harmony, basically the industry standard animation software. i'm very very slowly learning the ropes with the intention of creating some decent content in the future, including a new series of at home with mike and sam.

anyway, it's still gonna be a while before I make anything serious but i still gotta practice practice practice. it's been about seven months since I made my last animation on it while using a free trial for the software and thus haven't had any practice with it since. thankfully what little i had learned, didn't take me long to remember again. anyway, here's something random i've worked on.

so yeah this was meant to be a test for making a walking animation loop but kinda tripped over myself trying to loop back to a certain position with all the limbs and layers etc. so just thought fuck it and literally tripped the character over before adding a shitty background the justify the dude being centred towards the end.

expect more random stuff to be posted here pretty regularly, hopefully I'll get better with this software really quickly and you guys will get to see that improvement with every animation i post!

Pretty cool. I like how the man falls and his eyes go all crazy.

I'm about to start working on a 2D game so I'll definitely be brushing up on my 2d animation skills as well

Nice! It's not quite up to your 3dmm standards, but neither is my ToonBoom stuff. Keep us posted- I want to see A Tale of a Toy Monkey in full 2d glory

haha well given my peak level 3dmming was after ten years using it that's hardly a surprise. I've only owned toon boom now for just over a month and here is what I have to show for it;

That was good! The face movements work well with the speech. I think that you have a successful format on your side!

hey this is cool! how does it work exactly? is it basically just like working in Flash or Illustrator where you just gotta draw everything and use keyframes and all that, or does it have any sort of 3dmm-style simplifications?

also really impressed by the sound quality. you must have a good recording setup. voice act for some 3dmm movies!

yeah toon boom has onion skinning so you can draw frame by frame if you want, but you can also do keyframe animation like most 3d software lets you do. i prefer moho but it's not the industry standard so a lot of people shit on it, even though imo it's objectively just better in [almost] every way. but i'm also biased because:

I have never used toon boom, but talking bollocks is really good from a tech standpoint! it's very 3dmm with the overpowering camera tweens and such, and there's nothing wrong with that. in fact I'm kind of glad you learned to use them, since I think most animators just forget to tween their animations outright in the early stages so you've already got a lot of experience under your belt

thanks guys! i'm currently working on the next one and trying to experiment a bit more with camera cuts and movement, among some other things. the whole series really is just an excuse for me to experiment and learn from the software. it'll hopefully be done in a week or two. a lot of drawing is required for this one.

been a while since i've really made anything but i've been slowly setting things up for more talking bollocks including drawing a whole other character and every angled rendition of his face and stuff. anyway, i'm finally past the primary drawing phase and can now get animating again, here's a lil 3 second something i made today, please check it out! there will be more to come very soon!

haha thanks, i'm definitely proud of the burp video

kinda funny how this thread's just been bumped as I've actually started work this week on the full 20 minute episode after procrastinating for most of 2020 and literally just ten mins ago finished working on the opening scene

it'll probably be a while before it's actually finished but yeah, it should be good. if you've ever seen the ricky gervais show you'll probably have some idea on what this project is gonna be like when it's finished.
