Wow. Take your hat off and take a fucking bow, Grub. Congrats on making the best 3dmm movie of 2018. Of course The Fart that Killed the Town, also released in 2018, has a crown that can't be topped indefinitely. However, it is safe to say that you've earned the year itself. Watching Spook House Massacre, I grinned ear to ear the whole time, reacted like I would react to blockbuster movies. This movie made me feel, and I felt great as I watched it.
Hook: The movie opens to a quote from HP Lovecraft. This movie flat out tells you from the beginning; this movie is a horror, and it is fucking weird. It delivered. The scenes portrayed afterward is ominous and dark, and the gotcha moments is gritty and disgusting. Plot: I had doubts, but like I said; HAD doubts. From the beginning, it's seeming like it was going to be your standard hack and slash. You follow two police officers, Detective Zachary and Officer Bradford of Kelton-4. They respond to a suspicious activity scene, turns out it was a murder, they investigate further, yeah yeah blah blah. The movie is a beehive, active but lazy, boring on the outside, but once you prod deeper into it "FUCK!" its wild, frightening, a bit sweet actually, but it surprises you. The plot quickly thickens as a video of a professional charlatan recording his thoughts, appears troubling, as he is now questioning his perspective of the supernatural because of the house. The movie goes from 1 to 10 real quickly and just as it bears you its fruit it leaves you hanging, making you beg for more. Animation: This is where the movie absolutely shines, as a DEFAULT SCENERY HEAVY MOVIE of all things. Right from the first shot, the movie proves its ability to make these scenes unique. It uses effects that has you wondering "why did I not think of that?!". Despite that he used its solid, stiff, imagery, Grubnutter figured out how to make these static scenes come to life, and made it feel like it moves. His attention to detail, and comprehension to use the special effects absolutely excuses his use of DS. As a matter of fact, I'd say his use of the Default Scenery makes this movie far more endearing rather then if he didn't use it. I repeat; Grubnutter using Default Scenery made this movie better! Never thought that could be said. Talent: Hahah. Okay, hear me out. I enjoyed the bad voice acting. Yeah, it wasn't really good. The way that some lines were delivered are borderline laughable. However, I still give positive credit to the movie because of it. Why? Because the movie just gives this vibe of "okay this is a cheesy slasher film", and that comes complete with the bad voice acting. If you think about it, the bad voice acting followed by the single shot scenes, the clunky monster in the shadows, and right down to the title itself, made me feel like I was watching a movie inspired by the Resident Evil series, and I mean that in all the best of ways. Overall: The movie redefines how default scenery can be used. It uses tactics I have never seen any 3dmmer doing. It is a breath of fresh air to the community, and it is something we all needed for awhile. In my honest opinion, it is the best movie of 2018. The effort, the love, the dedication, it all shows. It proves that you don't need to have overdone custom scenery, a complex plot, and trained actors to create a charming and enjoyable movie. The movie just shines with effort, and by god was the effort worth it. If you had doubts on the state of 3dmm.com making a good film, WATCH THIS MOVIE. You will kick yourself because of that thought. 9.1/10 |
