☀ Solar Eclipse Film ☀

Making this was great. It was shot in backcountry tennessee and required a few miles of hiking to get to the cliff with the view of the hills (shown in the video). Camping out there was much better than trying to visit a crowded state park during the eclipse. Be sure to go check out the Great Solar Eclipse thread over in off-topic chat for more eclipse stories and eclipse info!

Nice. Good sound editing, highlighting when the evening insects came out.

Great. Good "job" on pissing-off Robert De Niro, you human toilet.

man i can't believe it took me so long to watch this one! i need to actually click the art gallery from time to time

yeah this was really well done!

very well shot, and the music was especially good. the animal shots were a nice touch. the shot of the sky around 2:15 is probably the climax and the nicest moment, you get a sense of why primitive societies felt all of these mystical premonitions for when eclipses would happen

I'm really happy I found that music & was able to license it. Music is so vital! Like the final ingredient that can totally transform a movie. For the rough cut I tried making my own score with garageband and it came out horrible. Definitely ruined the entire flow of the edit. So, lesson learned. Leave music to the professionals

I'm glad people are liking this part! I was worried because it got cloudy during totality but that actually made the shots turn out way more interesting. The clouds sort of worked as a natural filter so I was able to remove the solar filter off my lens. Shooting a clear sky would have just been the same thing that everyone has already seen before

I'm gonna submit it to some tennessee film festivals. I already submitted it to my city's local film fest as a "short documentary" then I realized that might be a mistake. They might consider it experimental even though I think it's a documentary

how short is a “short documentary” meant to be?

Under 40 minutes but I think they want documentaries to have narration and actual people in it. They also said they're especially interested in submissions from underrepresented people such as gender non-conformists so I guess chances are slim to none

just tell them that you're "gender queer" and refuse to specify how

Yeah it would be funny if everyone submitting gave an open-ended answer.

What is your gender? It's important to know for the movie selection process.

FLUID.
