Exciting! Good luck, Ben!

I am so hungry for a good animating AND drawing program, but it is indicative of my lack of patience that I can't even imagine sitting down and learning a whole new program from scratch.

I feel so old! With a job and family and all, there's just not time like there used to be to figure. things. out. 3dmm is still the simplest and most intuitive animation program that I've ever discovered, and it--whoo boy--it has its quirks, but there's still good bones there.

I know that Travis, Frankie, and however many others have tried to make a 3dmm2, but I'm still holding out for just such a masterpiece.

What I mean to say is-- good luck! You've made some great headway in ToonBoom

thanks! I posted this in the art gallery a couple of weeks ago but nobody seems to have noticed it in there so I'll post it here too.

i showed this to a guy i've met a few times who works in stop motion animation, he's worked on things like the movie chicken run. anyway he's encouraged me to work a little bit more on making these characters more likable and less over the top. i'll admit i did go a bit over the top here with mikes angry rant but i ultimately just wanted to practice creating a somewhat decent animation of two characters simply talking to one another.

it's gonna be a while now before i can get the perpetual license for toon boom and make more content sadly as i'm currently unemployed and having to find a new job.

Not bad, and I think that that succeeds in what you were aiming for, but I'm still a sucker for real animation. A conversation between two people in a static frame can only be so visually interesting, but I'd look forward to seeing more movement regardless.

I think that the character design of Sam is relaly good- I enjoy the 3dmmesque texturing and, especially, the lines in his hair. It contrasts in a good way with the rest of the design.

One thing to consider is to add a line of shading on each character- it will really make them pop 3-dimensionally. This line is fairly easy to manually draw into each frame, and its slight changes will hint at movement, even on a still figure.

Ignore the highlight line and just focus on the shadow line- slight movement of that shaded area would really help an otherwise static scene.

Good luck-- keep it up!!

Can you give me some lines to say? I'm very good with voices.

UPDATE!

hey guys, if anybody is still interested in any of this you'll be glad to know that things are very slowly still moving along. i hit a real personal obstacle though when i got screwed over and fired from my new job and sunk into a massively deep depression in november which i am still trying to climb out of.

because of all this i've still not been able to get the perpetual toon boom licence i've been working towards and it's been hard to find the motivation to do anything creative. there have however been discussions with those helping with this in the mean time regarding the new series development and applying some changes to the characters themselves due to some of the feedback i've gotten from the last video I posted. i will have the software up and running very soon due to some money coming my way and one of my many priorities is to get this ball rolling and start churning out some content in the coming months.

it just occurred to me prior to writing this that mike and sam will be hitting the ten year mark since their 3dmm debut back in 2009. on top of making me feel OLD it also kinda excites me, these characters growing and changing into something hopefully a little more inclusively enjoyable.

this project is most definitely not dead, it's only just beginning.
