The Wastes

Hey, I've been traveling all over the place since August so I can only chime in from time to time but I'd love to tell you that years of hard work will pay off soon with my upcoming multiplayer games, The Wastes!

http://store.steampowered.com/app/793670/

I hope the page speaks for itself. Any feedback is appreciated! This is a 2-head effort.

Dude that looks awesome. I've been playing around with ioq3 recently and wanting to make a small retro project with it. Nothing this big cause damn.

I love the oldschool vibe. Did you use the iortcw base? Or q3?

Edit: Oh just read on your website its the FTE QuakeWorld source. Steam says id Tech 3. I didn't realize they crossed over. Never knew much about QuakeWorld. Digging into it now. Cool beans!

Hell yeah!
Our engine-story is a bit complicated. Technically yes, we're using FTE QuakeWorld, but most of the toolchains we use are tailored towards idTech 3 content creation.

If we said it was a modified QuakeWorld engine, they'd got the wrong idea on how to approach content creation for our game.

All our levels are Quake 3 BSPs compiled with q3map2, all the materials are using the Quake 3 shader system also. The game-logic is written in QuakeC, which was used in Quake 1... but that's where the similarities stop. Our engine config is strictly tailored towards Quake 3's format (plus our own custom model format which is based on IQM).

So yeah, not something I could talk about on a store page in simple terms...

Man that's really awesome. I've always loved the id3 content flow. So easy but customizable.

What did you use mapping? GTK, Trenchbroom? I only ever used GTK but Trenchbroom actually looks pretty sweet (just found it on the FTE page). ioq3 uses IQM which is pretty sweet. That's cool that you basically made your own engine for this.

I'll take a key and test for ya, for sure.

I use J.A.C.K. to make all of my levels, and so does my partner.

The engine I did not create myself however, but I do help out on it sometimes. The creator is in on the project in terms of making sure that everything runs stable. He's an awesome guy.

But yeah, I can reserve a key for you

This looks so cool. Definitely reminds me of a cool 2000-era shooter, and the flavor is directly up my alley. If you need someone to test stuff, I'll definitely be on hand!
