One of the coolest movies I have seen in a long time.

Patrick, double-crossed by his partner in crime Randolph, tries to escape from the West Town Prison.

By Kewlak

Escape for Revenge is the prequel to another movie, Napad Na Bank (The Bank Robbery), recently released by director Kewlak, and is more then just any movie. It has animation that is practically unreal for 3dmm, and a great story.

Plot

The plot is that a robber (Patrick) is double crossed by his partner in crime, Randolph, and is arrested. Now he's planning his escape to get his revenge. It's pretty shallow, but it's simple enough to understand, with no huge complicated "Metal Gear Solid level of complicated" story. While some might think of this as a bad thing, I personally think it's good, since it makes room for future expanding on it.

Visuals

The visuals are great, but at times are a bit troubling. Alot of the things in the movie look great, and even amazing, but sometimes something will look really solidly colored, or straight up bad. What I mean by that, is that almost nothing is shaded when it comes to things like walls, or background objects like tables. There are times when something will look like it was made in MS Paint. But other then those hiccups, everything looks great. There are some cool effects, like when there is a wavy, fading image of Patrick's flashback. Sometimes, things are straight up animated outside of 3dmm, and looks great.

Animation

The animation is great in this movie, and I found no times where it didn't look bad. All of the animation is fluid, and very nice looking no matter how slow or fast it is. Alot of the movement is good on the eyes, and doesn't make me scratch my head. I think the coolest part is how it's done, with things like body parts being images, transparent images with in engine work after words (take a look at the wine glasses, for instance), and having illusions of 3d objects and depth of field.

Sound and Music

The sound in this is great, and while there are alot of default 3dmm sounds, I heard alot of very nice sounds like when the bars where being bent, the howling of the wind, or when the warden was trying to unlock the cell door. As for music, all of it is very fitting, and sounds high quality alot of the time. There not much to say about this, since I can't really think of anything else.

Overall

Overall, this movie is fantastic, and while it did have some small problems, in the end they are small problems, and nothing more than that. Not to mention this movie took 3 years to make, and while it was only 10 minutes, it was 10 minutes of pure effort and skill.

I give this movie my final rating of:

90%
Fantastic
90%
90%
Excellent
“This movie tries something nobody else has done... And succeeds.”

Good review! I had to laugh at this though:

I would say that 3dmm's default shade effect looks terrible and 1995-ish as hell and that this movie's style is much more "timless" and less dated

Yeah, you're right about 3dmm's shading being awful, but the detail on some objects look like something out of Bitstrips (Which, if you don't know, looks terrible).

I never really can shading and i think it would take me another few years to learn it . Besides indeed i used simply MS Paint to create some scenes o.O

Thanks for that positive review Broken Pencil. Now i see that those 3 years really paid off, just to read so many positive comments from you, guys. Thanks.

Ok, well if you want something that is (in my opinion) better then Paint, I suggest this. It's a free alternative to Photoshop, but functions more or less the same as Paint, but with things like Layers, Transparency, Ect.

Actually i used Gimp most of time, it has layers too. Work with a layers was the base, especially with 3D looking animations, or transparent ones.
I did scene, where Patrick drives away with stolen car while camera goes up 1 week, and i couldn't image how i would be supposed to do that without layers.
