Mugman

I've been working on a cartoon series called Mugman. It's about a one-armed mug kid named Mugman and his escapades. I've made two episodes so far:

Tell me what you think.

haha wow, these are great!

i really like the animation style. the facial expressions in particular are very well-done, but i also really like the way everything is drawn. i like that sort of raw, lazy style of drawing.

the voice acting is good, especially the main character. the credits say that is you? if so, very good job there. the recording quality tended to vary a little bit with some of the characters, especially in the dialogue from the two guys moving the furniture. also, i thought the sister's lines were a bit monotone. i don't know if this is due to the voice acting or the way the character is written, but that's something i'd suggest looking into.

the writing is very good. the story in the second one (i'm assuming the first is just sort of like an introductory bit) was well constructed and set up a lot of funny jokes (like ePeninsula. man, i laughed at just the simplicity of that). a bunch of really funny lines in there too. my favorite line was "Well, you did try really hard and put in a lot of effort... anyway, bye!"

the visual humor is one of your strongest points. the bit in the first episode where he is listing all the stuff he could do with a second arm was funny in writing, but the quick visuals made it way more funny. little stuff like, most of which was a lot more subtle, was the most entertaining stuff for me.

one thing i'd recommend is maybe putting in a joke or reference every now and again to him being a mug. i actually didn't even realize he was a mug until a ways into the second episode. part of it might just be me being stupid, but a joke or two about that would certainly help.

but yeah, these rule! i definitely encourage you to continue this project.

I draw all the frames in Paint.NET and animate them in Adobe Premiere.

the writing is funny, your voice acting is great, and the expressiveness of the animation, especially on the face of the lead, is excellent. the music is neat too. the drawings are pretty awful but it still manages to be charming. you should start learning an animation program and also improving your drawing skillz.

Also try to adjust the voices some more, the female voice in the last one was way more prominent than yours volume wise

I highly disagree with you on that. I think the whole idea is that it's supposed to look like that.

Great cartoon! I wish there was some way I could contribute...

I use Paint.NET to draw the frames, and Adobe Premiere to edit them. A little behind the scenes:

Is that way of animating very time consuming? Why don't you use a program specifically designed for animation?

Not really, the characters are really simplistic and easy to draw. I find this method a lot more fun than using Flash, because Flash feels slow paced in comparison.

That was great. The part when she was about to crush the cricket made me laugh.
