the avatar size dimensions limit could be doubled or even upped to 150×150 as rich lowtax recently did on his forum,

but i am also a fan of the unobvious benefits of the limitations of the past .. so do as you will . . .

let's have it where your avatar starts out at like 10x10 when you register, but then it increases by 5 every time you make a thread. that way we can immediately know who is more important here.

I totally agree, in fact I had already decided to increase them if/when we migrate to a new forum system. I was thinking something like 96x96 would look nice. I will probably change the rules before then so the transition is smoother.

It comes from icon resolutions/video games/sprites.

Yeah, pretty much. Other commonly used sizes in the world of iconography, including 8, 12, 16, 24, 32 and 48, are all factors of 96. It's also the default avatar size on the xenForo software.
