SUBURBAN BIRDS - A NEW Ashworth/Breed collab

yo guys! i haven't posted here in a while. thought i'd give you an update to my musical stuff.

so in the past year, i've been creating music with a live band. which is CRAZY different than what I did in the past with my own solo stuff. i wanted to have a project that has more of a live sound. then, since dylan and i felt really good about our meet the strangers stuff, dylan said he'd jump on as a creative producer/engineer. anyway, let me know what you think! here's a few songs:

SUBURBAN BIRDS - AWAKENING

this is fucking delicious, the first track i like more than the second, but that's very probably because this is new, and i listened to the first one if you know what i'm getting at. is there an ETA on the final album?

nice, thanks man! we're bouncing around ideas for that. we're mostly working on our live show, but for releases, i've thought of making three mini-albums. i don't like calling them ep's, but they'd essentially be like 4 tracks each.

i like that because it allows us to make more easily consumable releases and we can have each mini-album be a slightly different style.

we'll still be releasing early tracks for this pretty liberally tho.

Amazing work dude, cant wait for more!

Awakening is great compositionally although there doesn't seem to be much power in the bottom end and the distorted guitars are pretty thin and quiet when they come in as that part sounds like it should have much more of a punch when it comes in. As with the bass I dig the actual basslines I just don't really feel anything behind it. Granted I'm on laptop speakers although I did listen with headphones and the effect wasn't that much greater. Perhap it was just a combination of the mix and SoundCloud?

not sure! get new speakers? just kidding (3dmm joke if you remember), these are definitely early mixes and you're right, there are improvements to be had. we spent a lot of time on the composition first, but it'll get finished eventually.

i had the first half of that song done for like half a year before i thought, "i need to fucking add a change up to this song". slight, but yeah, glad you noticed.

anyway, here's a picture of us recording awakening and another unreleased song in tom breed's arizona studio:

that's the breedster at the helm, recording drums.

cool. i dig the second track a lot. both could use a lot less delay and reverb on the vocals and the guitar imo. it sounds like you're singing in a stadium at the bottom of the ocean, while the drums and bass sound very dry, like they're in a studio. you have a really cool voice, i think using effects in many cases can help vocalists, but in your case it might be taking away from the performance.

Hey Zach, question. Are you and Tom Breed still "Meet The Strangers" or was that just for the album?

that moniker was pretty much for that concept album only... the concept was that it was two strangers making music, and now that idea has kinda disintegrated now that we not only added three more members to our project but also met each each other! so we wanted to make this one a brand new project.

nah, two 3dmmers is enough crazy for one project. the other guys are friends of mine who happened to play other instruments really well! it's been cool working with more people, we can get music out much faster.

yeah! we've been working on our live performance and actually just played our first live show yesterday. here's a bunch of random footage from 5 different songs (starts in sort of a jammy part of awakening):

it was so damn fun. i was surprised by the response. we'd been jamming these songs in our box of a bandroom, so to finally play them in front of a crowd was amazing.

thanks phil and james, you guys rule. james, i know on the art... it's pretty cool, but word is that aaron haynes may be doing art on this project as well. ;P

first track has a definite temples vibe to it, but cleaner and overall more going on.
Really liking this, a lot more than meet the strangers. like, i appreciated those songs and liked a few, but this song instantly grabbed me.
on to the next one now.

EDIT: Shame that's not the album art, it's lovely

EDIT: Both are fantastic and i wish i'd wrote them. You win at music on 3dmm. these are great, i'm eagerly awaiting an album.
