I feel bad for Macklemore for being somewhat Peter's Principled into this perceived position as The Sole Hip Hop Artist That Gives Some Sort of Hoot About Same Sex Marriage And Socio-Economical Issues given that he's probably indeed kind hearted and sort of a goof ball, but the position he got pushed into by a lot of critics makes him in a position where any backlash towards the guy means that the defense usually gets into DON'T EVEN TELL HIM OFF OR ELSE EVERY MINORITY EVER IS TOO UPPITY FOR ITS OWN GOOD which it's all sorts of messed up by itself

Maybe it's because I don't like his genre of music, but I've never gotten what makes him a "genius". I've seen people proclaim over and over how brilliant he's supposed to be, but I've never really heard anything come out of his mouth to back it up.

his lyrics aren't really all that good or deep. also, changing one mainstream music genre's direction from one thing to another thing is hardly an incredible, genius achievement.

i don't actually dislike kanye but saying he's the best artist in the world or something is such an over the top statement. about anyone, really.

edit: oh, you were talking to dustin

you can say 'has changed styles a bunch of times and is still really consistent' about so many musicians

Well, that would do it, then. The last rap/hip hop song I actually enjoyed was Run This Town, but even then just the version with ES Posthumus (with Kanye's part cut), and I wished they could remove Jay Z's voice from the whole thing.

he's (i think) one of the only successful rappers who was also a good producer in his own right, and so the relationship between music and words is different than in a lot of rap.

he is certainly a guy who is more willing to try different things than most famous rappers.

That's actually one of the first legitimate answers I've ever been given. Usually people just act like you're an idiot for even questioning it.

yes, i mean people who are into weed paraphernalia, or the kind who'd get excited to go to amsterdam or something. not just any random users.

as for lyrical rap, i don't know, i don't really listen to a lot of rap. i don't necessarily think rap is bad, but… (bad opinion incoming) i feel like to a lot of people, rap lyrics are what guitar solos are to metalheads. like, there is a perception that rap lyrics are 'better' than other lyrics just because they have more words.

Happyjuice, John Brion co-produced Late Registration. Kanye's older songs, like Heard em say, helped people through their days. Now he just constantly spews vitriol. In "Never Let Me Down" he promises his grandma he won't let the game change him. But in MBDTF he talks about plunging into the rockstar life. He seems depressed, but the feelings of depression are only temporary, so I think we may see warm Kanye again.

This explains why he's hot:

You should be allowed to refuse service to anyone who spouts "The customer is always right" up to having them removed from the premises. Because the only times the customer ever says that are when they're being assholes, demanding shit they are not entitled to, or just flat out wrong.

Yeah, I think THAT'S the idea customers should start getting into their heads. They generally don't know what the fuck they're talking about and should probably come to terms with that before asking for help.

What surprises me is that so few customers do a simple Google search before making their demands.

my favorite rapper is guru from gang starr, and he is very slow and deliberate.

and for the record i dont really care for kanye west, i find him bland when he's being mainstream and overhyped when he's being an 'artist.'

I think the idea of having pets is absurd. Like you buy a dog or cat or hamster or whatever, and treat it as a family member and give it a fucking name. It's just weird to me. I have nothing against animals in general, I'm vegetarian and all, but maybe that's the thing. I don't think humans should have anything to do with animals if it's not necessary.

And when someone is all "but guide dogs for blind people are necessary", I'm all "fuck no, just get a guide person or whatever".
