What would you do if your friend stood you up?

So I have this friend. I've been friends with him since middle school, he's literally probably my oldest friend (other than you fuckers.)

We hang out once or twice a week, and he's ok to hang out with. But a lot of time, and especially lately, he tells me were going to hang out tonight or something, and then just refuses to pick up the phone or answer a text. Like it would be one thing if he couldn't hang out, told me, and then I would go find something else to do, but he doesn't even bother to let me know.

What do you guys think? I'm really leaning towards cutting this person off and never hanging out with them again just based on this sketchiness. He's always been like this but lately it's gotten worse. I don't have that many friends here so I am sort of dependent on anyone I can get, but I'm starting to feel like this guy is just a big waste of my time and kind of a loser.

What do you think, 3dmm.com?

I really don't think people like that should be rewarded with friendship. If someone can't even so much as call you back when you've already put time aside for seeing them, I think they're a huge piece of shit that aren't even worth the effort.

have you ever approached him about this before? has he ever given any kinda explanation?

yes. I've confronted him about this several times. Basically the excuse he tells me is that he "doesn't want to disappoint me", ie: telling me he won't be able to hang out will disappoint me and he doesn't want to do that. But I've also explained to him that it's way worse to not even say anything.

The funny part is that i've never treated him this way myself. But the other day I decided to fuck with him and not reply to his text for like an hour, and he got obviously upset and started sending me text after text.

So yeah, I think you guys are right. I'm cutting him off.

I wouldn't actively ignore the guy, but I'd stop attempting to make plans... and if he doesn't want to hang out anymore, then screw'm, who needs him.

If he's the one initiating making plans, that's very annoying... I'd just say no I don't want to hang out for a while, just to send the message that I'm not going to put up with being blown off... But I'd eventually come around sometime later.

I'd just stop trying to put much effort into making plans with him until he seriously tried to make plans and carried through. Maybe he has a lot of shit going on in his life and unintentionally allows plans to fall through with everyone right now (not just you).

i've never really had any experiences like this. but i imagine i'd just naturally distance myself from that person, not putting any effort in to stay in contact/hang out with them, like i do with anyone i get general bad vibes from. but hey if they come at me wanting to talk or make plans then i'll consider it maybe.
