Would any of you seriously consider a mail order bride?

Like let's say you're 50 and single and they were hot or something?

My biological dad is thinking about it.

How often do those arrangements work out? I can't help but think a mail order bride would automatically resent me for buying her like property and taking her away from her family, country, and life... Then again maybe life's not so great in China or Russia or wherever she's from. Still, I would never be able to shake the feeling she's there out of obligation, so that's a deal breaker for me.

I'm pretty sure I know different people who have been married to 'mail order' brides. In some cases it works out fine and the people do end up genuinely liking each other, in other cases I guess the relationship is strained, I know one of my friends' moms was like that and now her dad is basically like blind and sick and I guess she's taking care of him but its not exactly a happy situation, you know? But I don't know how much of that has to do with all that. I can't imagine that that's how I'd want to spend time though, taking care of some sick person who I was forced to marry because my life before was so shitty, but it's just a reality to a lot of these people that this is the only way they can escape their miserable life there. I don't think there are a lot of opportunities for people like that to come here and become citizens the legit way (I could be wrong, idk). If your life back at home is so miserable that you're literally starving, hell yeah you would do that to get out of the country..

But yeah, I wouldn't do it.

I dunno he hasn't met one yet. And also I wouldn't want to know.

He has this weird idea in his head that every time he's in a normal relationship, something terrible happens to someone close to him. When he was with my mum his best friend died, when he was with his partner before their son murdered the next door neighbour, when he was with his next partner her twin girls died in a house fire. He thinks getting a mail order bride will fix this?

A, He's fucking retarded
B, if this was even a true thing, I'm pretty sure mail order brides are people too you fucking retard.

But yeah, serious answer, I'm with Shaun. You'd always feel like she was just there for the money, no matter how much she said she liked being with you and was happy to be out of her country.

Mail order brides are a joke! Because I watched this episode of Forensic Files, and I heard about a mail order bride which Dr. Nyce got, but things got ugly since Dr. Nyce's business went bankrupt before he was able to market any drug that would get rid of asthma, and his sneaking suspicions on unanswered reassurance of his marriage lead him to murder his mail order bride; and he got 8 years in prison. The crime scene he tried to cover up had too many red flags to be dismissed as a suicide case that would have given Dr. Nyce the benefit of a doubt.

So much for the mail order bride concept.

It seems like online dating, except the first date is meant to go on until you die, so fuck no.

It's not too far off from an arranged marriage. Both of which being archaic notions. I personally wouldn't want to, even if I was old and haggard. If anyone I know did it, I'd probably think less of them and tell them the truth that I think it's creepy and has a bad human-traffic-y taste.

Speaking of online dating and mail order spouse, my grandma "met" a guy online from Seattle and they talked on the phones a lot and somehow she fell in love with this guy. He moved out here and they got married right away. I never liked him. When we met him they were already engaged. He was a creepy tool. Turns out, he was bi-polar and started hiding money from her and then suddenly bought a big ass truck with a power washer and decided he, at the prime age of 80, was going to go into the power washing business... They divorced, thank god.
