top 10 video games

well, since my new GPU is on its way I'll finally be able to play games again, and just because I've enjoyed the video game music thread and wouldnt mind a bit more discussion, try and do a top 10. i feel on the whole there are an absolute ton of good games I havent played, and I'll have a lot of free time over the summer but not much money, so I'm also using this as a recommendation thread

mine:

heroes of might & magic III (PC)
age of empires II (PC)
oddworld: abe's oddysee/exoddus (PS1. PC)
team fortress 2 (PC)
ghostbusters (mega drive)
sonic 2 (mega drive)
unreal tournament (PC)
gta: san andreas (multiplat)
metroid prime (GC)
majora's mask (N64)

to be honest, burning crusade should probably be in there just for sheer hours but for the severe social damage it caused, it is not on the list

wow heroes 3 really? i loved that game. i loved the castle (whichever one gave you angels, so cheap and ridiculous)

also oddworld games are great

for me its:

-smash bros melee (easily have like 3000 hours on this)
-tf2 (maybe 2000?)
-sf2 and 3 (personally i liked 3 even though people who like 2 usually hate 3 :/ ~1000)
- indiana jones and fate of atlantis (probably the best balance between logical and difficult puzzles ive seen in a p&c)
-crash team racing (makes mario kart look like GARBAGE)
-baldurs gate dark alliance (on the harder difficulties is one of the few games where the difficulty comes from the game rather than artificially from how much of a cunt it is to control)
-metal gear solid
-final fantasy 8
-return to castle wolfenstein
-dota 2 ( i never played wc3 dota and i feel i really missed out)

none of these are helpful recommendations for you so ..... civ5 maybe? not demanding but still good

haha I'm actually probably the worst possible person to ask about Civ games cuz I fell so in love with Civ II that it's still the one I play the most by far. but honestly I think they've all been really good - the big complaints about some of them are really just people being used to things being one way and not liking changes, so they shouldn't really matter to someone getting into the series for the first time. diving right on in to Civ 5 would be just fine. or play Civ II!!

i would start with IV, V introduced some elements that i think would make it a chore to play, trade routes, etc

anyway my top ten

super mario world (agreed with lohr, as good as a platformer gets)
SNES super mario kart (i would have sunk more hours in to this than maybe anything else ever)
GTA san andreas (IV and V are probably technically better games but i've never connected with a game more)
red dead redemption (this game was so good it is outrageous)
a link to the past (i have not played the N64 games for some reason)
super mario 64 (completely changed the way i viewed video games)
goldeneye (defined games for an entire generation. no one knew games could be this good)
sonic 3 and knuckles (maybe not as good a game as all the other stuff but i have nothing but good memories from this game)
duke nukem 3D (i even used to make maps and mods for this)
super metroid (chronically underrated game)

I was going to make a thread similar to this!

10. Timpesplitters 2
9. Team Fortress 2
8. Portal
7. Titanfall
6. Doom
5. Quake 2
4. Rise of the triad
3. Half life
2. 3dmm
1. Garry's mod
(or should it be 2. Garry's mod and 1. 3dmm?)
Yeah, I play way too many fps's. But hey-hey! What would you expect from a kid who spends his time playing games with his friends? I mean, my friends play mostly fps's, so why don't I? I was born like that.
EDIT: putting doom at 6., replacing 4. with Rise of the triad, removing hls.
