In 14 days, this website will turn 15 years old. Within the next year and a half, 3DMM itself will turn 20 years old. I've been running this website for almost half my entire life. Sorry you feel it's been such a short run. Clearly, I don't know what the hell I'm doing.

3d Movie Maker is an almost twenty-year-old program that could charitably be called "obsolete." It's a minor miracle that people can even run the program on their computer anymore. This community is exactly where it should be. There is no plausible scenario in which this community is still vibrant.

It is directly on-topic, seeing as "ruining 3dmm" is what Red accuses everyone of doing.

Complaining to Goat about it is essentially no different than complaining to him that because of his bad administration, the sun continues to rise every morning.

Yeah, but that has nothing to do with 3dmm being obsolete. I mean sure the technology is oudated for a long time but what else would you give a kid to make their own 3d-movies with? Nothing has replaced 3dmm yet so it will continue to attract little kiddos

It has everything to do with 3dmm being obsolete. It is a program designed for Windows 95 and hasn't been sold in over a decade. You don't think that has anything to do with the state of the community? This community grew because people's parents had bought the program, or it (or a demo) came bundled with their PC.

but it's not as bad as andres is making it out to be. people are still using 3dmm, granted nowhere near the amount of people who were using it a decade ago but we still have new people joining this community, whether it's to make movies, watch movies or just post AND we still have a few members from the past ten years or more, still making films in their free time (ie. dustin). the 3dmm has been partially taken out of 3dmm.com and red scorpion seems to have convinced himself that this is a terrible thing and this delusion he stands on that non users of the program (who also happen to think he's a fucking moron) are ruining the community is the only argument he really has to use against people. he fails to realize that even those who DO still use 3dmm now and then couldn't give two shits whether the movie making side of the community dies because IT'S NOT ABOUT THE MOVIES ANYMORE, IT'S ABOUT THE PEOPLE.

Something will die eventually, but not now and not in 20 years.

This community has always been a lawless, never-ending drama machine, even when it was just a guestbook on MAMT. It's a trait it has carried since its very birth. Perhaps I could have done something to alter that a decade or so ago, but if you think I have or had any control over the behavior of this community at any time during the past 10 years, then you're a blind fool who doesn't understand at all how this community works. Even if I wanted to ban people just for being "assholes" (which is pretty much everyone according to you, thanks to your comical lack of self awareness and hair-trigger temper), I would have an actual revolt on my hands. What little of a community we have left would become undoubtedly splintered. Remember what happened when I tried to ban Omnirom, someone who I'd argue wasn't even very well liked? Half the community petitioned for him to be unbanned, and about a third nearly left. It should be obvious to anyone who properly understands this community that a change in moderating attitude now, after nearly 20 years of virtual lawlessness, would serve no purpose other than to quicken the website's inevitable death.

The compromise I made when I transitioned from a guestbook to a bulletin board was that I wasn't going to allow this same lawlessness infect the 3DMM section of the site, and it never has. I don't moderate those forums the same way I do the off-topic ones, and there has always been a much higher expectation for you to remain civil and respectful in movie and mod replies than there is in masturbation and drunk threads. Ironically, the only person I can recall ever having to ban more than once for being an "asshole" in the 3DMM forums, is you, so you can step off your mighty high horse right the fuck now.

If you really cared about the 3DMM side of this community, you wouldn't be starting ridiculous imp witch hunts every time someone joins the site who doesn't fit into our usual 18-25 age demographic. What we have here is a new member whose surprising youthful age makes him virtually immune to all the cynicism and decadence us aging veterans are surely to try and poison him with. Like it or not, he is probably the future of 3DMM. What he needs is a veteran who still has an interest in making movies to help him sharpen his 3DMM skills and better understand how to fit in with a group of significantly older peers. What he needs is advice. What he doesn't need is to be chased away by idiots such as yourself who feel the need to shout "witch" anytime they encounter someone unlike themselves on the internet.

Do I think its healthy for him to post in the off-topic forums? No, but I'd much rather he adapt his behavior on his own than force me to be a dick about it and sour his opinion on how the moderators here treat new members. Four or five internet fax-paxs neither set off my imp radar, or annoy me to the point of feeling it necessary to kick a person out. That's just how I roll. Deal with it, bitch.

I think that the community isn't going to die because 3dmm isn't the focus anymore?

I have no delusions about it. It's NOT going to go back to being what it was. A few kids somehow stumbling upon it isn't exactly the sign of a resurgence. Sure, there are a few hold outs, like myself, still find some value and enjoy the program for what it is and what it allows you to create. It's beyond obsolete, but hell, it's fun and I don't have to learn an entirely new program with an entirely new set of standards.

But yeah, the 3dmm in 3dmm.com is pretty much a formality at this point.

For the record, although I don't think there's anything wrong with anybody using 3dmm, I think it's silly to describe it as anything other than dead, or say it isn't dead because a handful of people use it. It's dead. Its' aesthetic is too ugly/outdated for it to ever catch on in a big way, and even the biggest new releases will only be seen by like twenty people at most. Not that this is a reason for anyone to give up or stop it.
