A song I've been working on over the last week...

I've been experimenting with drum sampling and stuff this week, I recorded a bunch of sounds from my electronic drum kit and sequenced them in the computer and set it up in stereo. I'm pretty chuffed with the result to be honest.

http://3dmm.net/files/43/ftdhfg.mp3

There are still a few bugs. I need to add something after the first chorus, and the ending is a little thin. There are also a few timing issues but meh. It's unfinished.

And there'll be vocals eventually.

Comments PLZ.

Are there lyrics written for it yet? I'll attempt singing something if there is. I like what you've got so far though.

Hey now that's good - albeit a little thin. You gotta add some vocals and maybe another sound sample? Otherwise pretty neat.

There are going to be vocals.

As I said, it's unfinished. I've got about 6 songs on the go at the moment, I'm hoping to put together some kind of album.

Ill try and get the melody and lyrics done this week. I was originally going to attempt singing myself but I'm more than happy to give you a go Beast. Perhaps a sample or something? You could try layering your vocals over the track if you want so I can see how it sounds.

Okay.
The drum beat is way too loud.
It's also a little too generic. I'd suggest getting a better sounding kit (I realise that its electronic); and messing with samples.

I really like the direction of this song though. Add a little distortion to the bassline to make it more noticeable.

Finally, Beast is a terrible singer and you should avoid him at all cost. Just sayin'.

I wasn't saying use me in this song fagwad. I was saying I'd like to do something with it. And I've never even posted clips of singing as far as I know, asscrust.

But yeah Sam, I'll record something over a bit of it for shits and giggles tommorow.

I havent fiddled with the levels much yet. I'm working on recording my real kit and getting it into a sampler. I just need to figure out about velocities etc.

And the bass is in no way finished. I recorded it ith my electric guitar, raised the low frequencies, then took it, lowered it an octave and layered it over it. Just as a placeholder until i can get/borrow a bass guitar. Then I can fiddle around with effects and the such.

I need to compress the drums and add some reverb I think. This is the frst time I've tried using a sampler to create a drum track, and I was just experimenting really. I like how the fills pan though.

I'm working on another song at the moment, very muse-esque, with strings and weird effects. It's sounding awesome. I'll post that soon.

EDIT: Cade, do you know of any sampler that can import different sounds at different velocities, to make fills sound more natural? For the hi-hat in this song I had two samples at different volumes, so the first beat was louder than the second etc. but I cant do this with all the drums. There are only 16 spaces.

EDIT EDIT: And I'm a terrible singer. I should avoid me at all costs.

Reason can do a pretty good job of importing different drum sounds at different velocities. Project5 also has a pretty nifty drum machine, and I highly recommend Project5v2. You can set multiple beats for different velocities - ie, softer snares between 0 - 100 and ultra loud smash-bang snares at 100-127. I hope you get what I mean haha. Go download P5v2 if you have the patience to get a 2.5gb file.

You're getting a shitload better at this. Add me to MSN sometime and I'll help you out with production and stuff.

You have an awful voice and an even worse ear for production and rythmn. I know this is true from those terrible 'freestyles' you posted a while ago. Ergo, I don't think you could sing at all and I think you should avoid embarassing yourself by not getting involved.

Hmm. I was looking into Project 5 recently, but I'm not sure. I'm really comfortable with using Sonar at the moment, and I'm not sure I'm up to a change. And besides that point nothing seems to want to download on this piece of shit computer. I'll look into it though. If I can get it working I'll more than happily give Project5 a go.

Reason looks good as well. I'll probably try that first.
