Untitled webcomic project

Yo, guys. Been finally getting off my butt and working on some comic stuff this week. Wanna get some input. Here's some very rough WIPs I'm currently toying with:

Obviously the first one isn't really hammered out composition-wise, but any feedback on the layout of the second one would be appreciated, as well as any feedback on the art. Or if they're even funny?

Re: The Pluto helmet, its hilarious to see one side blaming Arnold for killing himself and the other side blaming Janet for being so annoying to the point of making Arnold kill himself to make her shut up.

I detect some Marlo Meekins vibes on them as well. Do you follow her as well?

I've never consciously observed Marlo Meekins influencing my style, but you could be on to something, because I do really like her stuff.

Currently trying to retool the character design of the girl. I showed my friends the second comic and none of them realized she was supposed to be a woman. Like, my one friend couldn't even deductively reason that. He was just like "why is that guy wearing women's clothing?"

These are excellent man! They have this real unique humor, and I'm enjoying it. And of course, the artwork so far is gorgeous, but that goes without saying

I only just realized she's the same character in the first comic, so yeah, the design isn't reading as female for some reason. I think it's the high forehead and wide temples. Maybe the lack of eyelashes, too. She seems chinless in the lying-down pose, too.

I see a lot of potential here, but also an inconsistency in levels of detail that seems to characterize a lot of your work. It's strange when the characters' faces have these subtle realistic details and their shoulders or hands just seem quickly doodled in. Same goes for the shading, really accurate peaks and valleys on the faces, but then totally flat torsos, necks etc. (of course this could just be because these are unfinished).

I think you have a tendency to labor over the things that you're experienced with, and rush the things you're less sure about. Because you have such a high level of talent with things like color and smooth shading, it unfortunately stands out a lot. But these concepts are solid enough, and most webcomics take a while to find their groove. I think it's a promising start.

Oh, and the layout for the second one is good, although maybe a little cramped. It's hard to tell without coloring. Maybe some more vertical space, like that "getting out of a test by noclipping" comic you did? The progression of panels in the middle should probably start high and arc lower, rather than the opposite, my eye keeps going from panel 3 down to panel 6.
