Crusader Kings looks awesome, but looks like it will sink up a lot of hours. I'm going to put it on my Steam wishlist, but I'm going to ignore it for now. One of my favorite gaming moments was playing a medieval scenario for Civ 4 on very hard difficulty. I listened to a custom playlist of Gregorian chant and authentic medieval music and really took my time to immersed myself and strategized. This looks like it might provide that sort of experience.

it just gets old to me seeing those animations so much. the gameplay is super fast and its fun but the melee kinda drags it down for me. i mean look at the 2nd most earned achievement, "200 glory kills" before even beating map 2, geeeeeeeez so its not even just me

played the Resident Evil 7 trailer. that's some spooky shit! extreme focus on the atmosphere... first good RE since RE4?

got Hand of Fate on sale. this game is awesome! plays great with a controller. the presentation makes the game 10x better, like with Bastion. its pretty simple but its cool

yeah that's a big part of what gets old so fast in that game. SAAAAAAAAME fucking glory kill on the SAAAAAAME fucking demon over and over and ovER AND OVER. how many fucking times do i have to watch him tear out the cacodemon's eyeball or kick the zombie in the leg & then punch his head.

it's fucking awesome the first time, and even the first 10 times. it wouldn't be so bad if there were like, 500 different melee animations that were ACTUALLY contextually dependent (not just, behind/front/side/above). but there's not.

on top of that, the enemies take a stupidly huge amount of ammo to kill once you get to the later stages of the game. like... it's not even hard, you're just standing there firing rounds upon rounds into the same damn enemy you've seen 100 times. there were moments were i was literally like, just standing there unloading into a demon's face just watching him do the stagger animation over and over until finally he dies after like 45 seconds. NOTHING fun about that. plus once you get the BFG (and to a lesser extent the chainsaw) you have an instant "okay i win now" button so it's not like there's really any challenge anyway.

the battles also get really repetitive & often aren't tactically compelling it all. it tries to make the game more challenging by just throwing more and more of the same damn enemies at you, but it's like... it's not really that much harder, it just takes longer because every enemy takes ten thousand bullets to get to the glory kill when you do the same stupid face punch and get all your ammo back & then repeat.

some of the battles are cool & take place in interesting areas but most are literally like.... "okay here's a big square with some platforms and shit, now fight 8 floating cacodemons and some zombies". it gets to the point where you hear the BAD AZZ RAWWK MUZIK fire up and you're just like "oh great not again, god fuck this." NOT a good way for a shooter to make you feel.

on the other hand there are some really cool aspects to the game. but i dont feel like talking about those now because i just felt like bitching about it.

a WAY better use of your time is to play Brutal Doom, which is 1000x more fun & feels perfect, exactly the way you've always wanted Doom to feel. and it's mothrefucking free

regenerating health and ironsights and slower run speed and third person exections in doom is ketchup on a steak
