'Decoration' Short Sci-Fi Baroque Animation

Dear Friends!

Sorry I don't really post much here lately, although I still always see 3dmm as my 'spiritual home' as an animator/artist.

Here's my Royal College of Art graduation Animation called 'Decoration'

It's a Sci-Fi Baroque fairy tale about a vase that inhabits the body of a little girl and re-stages the death of her hamster with living tissue.

Here's what some people have said:

“Admirable fidelity to a certifiably bugnuts vision...” (Jason Sondhi, Curator of Vimeo and Short of the Week)
“... frankly bizarre....” (Gavin Lucas , www.creativereview.co.uk)
“...a horribly visceral animation” (Polly Brock , www.epigram.org.uk)

I'd love to hear what y'all think too! Somehow making this reminded me a LOT of making Aaarnishoz. It's pretty gory really. I'd be really honored if anyone felt like sharing it or posting it to a blog or anything... I'll send you a tropical cake one day to say thanks...

Much love,

Ben

Wow, that was great. I really like the ideas (about loving something to death), the whole baroque sort of quality, the animation (of course), and that damn good narration. Awesome work, man.

You've really outdone yourself on the flesh effects. I have no idea how you've done any of that.

Thanks for the awesome comments!

Compcat - surprisingly, only a few people actually pick up on the fact that it's about 'loving something to death'. I've even had people ask 'what has the hamster got to do with the rest of the film...?'

However, I think the most 'metaphorically' minded people seem to pick it up instantly.

Adam - the flesh effects were (for the most part) a macro piece of footage of my lip moving that I then treated with loads of FX in After Effects, and some 3d stuff too. For my next film I'm want to use Maya to and realflow to get some super juicy gore stuff going!

Thanks for watching!

I thought maybe the vase WAS cancer and "loved" the girl to death at the end, cause you hear the heart monitor... could be wrong though.
