Compcat's Work-in-Progress Songs

I know most of you folks aren't into the kind of fantasy-synth-ambient music I make, but maybe check it out anyways.

These are both definitely rough drafts, and there's a 90% chance that I'll be changing a lot with them, but I think they're already pretty interesting to listen to.

The Swamp Castle Rises

Ghost of the Princess

Okay, I'll admit that to me these are still essentially videogame background music, but they're good videogame background music! They sound neat.

What a nice use of music theory that is being displayed here hey neat!

..

but seriously, I could only get the Castle Rises to play but it was pretty neat! It actually reminded me of a video game too like Bown said, something like an epic RPG on Playstation 1 or something. I'm sure the title helped plant that idea in my head too. Anyway, keep making music. Keeping honing that skill and studying that craft man.

they do feel very basic, there's definitely a major ART in complicating things without cluttering the tune

haha the first one reminds me of:

except this one has a lot more going on in it, but still has a toned down videogame background vibe to it (mainly cause it is videogame BGM, foreground has a very simple melody like in yours, but there's all that subtle BACKGROUND SHIT, a lesson to be learned from that track maybe i dunno

edit: by the way how do you post a youtube video as a proper song embed like with mp3's? you can click on the far right of the above box to get it to play HERE but it's not exactly clear

Yeah, I think 90's video game music is probably the closest well-known thing to this kind of music, so it's a compliment to me that it has that sound. Thanks guys.

And Dan, I think I do agree with you that there should be more going on, especially in the Ghost Princess track. I was working on it while half-drunk last night, so now that I got some more distance, I think you're right that it's mostly in basic skeleton form right now. And I know I'm not done with the Swamp Castle one, but I was having a lot of trouble adding anything without, as you mentioned, cluttering it all up.

But that Pandemonium track is really cool. I think I'm going to get the whole soundtrack of that game.

Thanks! I've actually really been getting into Ultima music this past year, even though I never played any of the games. And of course I listen to Gothic's soundtracks religiously.

Really really awesome. I like the Swamp Castle one best.

It reminds of something out of Ultima or even like Gothic, those kind of old-influence RPGs.

Really nice stuff.

Naw, that's fine. I grabbed the playstation one, and don't hear too much of a quality difference between the two. Thanks though.

Hey guys, here are some more tracks I've been sitting on for a while that I'd appreciate some feedback for. I feel like they're not quite resonating with me the same way that the Seven Wonders stuff did, so I'm not sure whether, when I finish it all up, I should release it through Valscharuhn or a more experimental side-project.

Barbarian Hordes Amass

Immortal Union with Dagon (this is more a collection of loose ideas than a complete draft)

A Hermit's Sanctuary

Hieroglyphic Forest (very rough draft)

Cave and Void (this is more of a fun experiment, definitely not Valscharuhn material)

Untitled (same as above)

And if you're interested, I made some pretty significant changes to Ghost of the Princess (partially based on Dan's suggestions):
