Meet The Strangers - ALBUM RELEASE THREAD

It took us two years. But it's done

So here's the nitty gritty.

The album took us two years, 0 phone calls, 0 video chats and 0 meetings. We worked completely over the internet. Zach has the most tracks, I did the most production. Whoever sings lead wrote the track, but we ultimately worked together on every single song, through every little detail. We are both immensely proud and hope you guys enjoy the hell out of it

You can download the album for FREE, or make a donation (always appreciated ) If you make a donation of $10 or more, we will send you a physical CD and art booklet full of art by Master Aaron Haynes.

Obviously, if you are in the UK or outside the country, the bigger the donation the easier for me and Zach. You don't HAVE to donate more than $10 to get the stuff, but it would help us out with shipping costs and the like.

Anyway, we hope you enjoy, 3dmm As always, we are excited for your feedback

except you Dan

You can always buy again.

But seriously, on the money aspect of this... we just want to get it out to as many people as possible. Jamie asked about shipping to New Zealand and $10 is still totally cool if you want the physical album, no matter where you are.

Downloaded, and I'm going to buy when my money comes in. I'm listening now and it's amazing so far, plus the cover letter is beautiful.

Beautifully done, sirs. This is the first time I've listened to the album since December, as I wanted to give myself time to forget what it sounded like so I could hear it anew on release. I also had a version that was incredibly out of date. It's amazing to hear how much some of these songs have improved, considering how great they were to begin with. The sound is incredibly sharp and polished, easily the best produced album from either of you, and the best written and performed as well.

We Don't Care (the biggest sticking point I had) cleaned up beautifully, it sounds tremendous. People, COASM, Curse, Sky, Cure, Ocean, and Rebel all sounded even more crisp than the last time I heard them, which seems impossible. The chaos of Animals is even better, Fake Emotion sounds like it's full of shiny sharp edges, We're Dead is lovely. Stittches still messes with me a little, but only because I've heard so many versions of it that I'm still trying to hear what's changed and compare it to what I remember. I'll settle in and learn to love this one as I hear it more.

This is a tremendous accomplishment and I'm happy to have been a part of it. Easily the most challenging single project I've ever done. I hope a billion copies get sold (but of course, that's a little self-serving coming from me). Great work.

My in depth review:
People - sucked
Stittches - Felt like it could be a great pop song but is missing something
Come On And Save Me - Was kinda nice, but the ringy dingly sound was too loud or something. Felt very out of place. Replace it with cowbell.
I Got The Curse - I like this song
Sky - Good song! (could improve with better singing)
Animals - Felt like this should have been some weird club/techno/dupstep/whatever
I Got The Cure - the curse was better
On An Ocean - Some of the singing was pretty bad on this. But I enjoyed the song.
Rebel - like the intro diddy, rest of the song goes into "okay" category. If it were a "big" song I can see people singing along with "I'm a liar can't you see / I'm a dirty thief". Nice hook or whatever it's called.
Fake Emotion - Complete shit. Autotune or whatever was really irritating.
We Don't Care - I don't care (for this song, lololol). The big outro thingy was neat tho
We're Dead - nice song

3 fish

General comment: That Tom Breed echoe-y voice effect gets annoying sometimes
Favourite Song: Sky
Worst song: Fake Emotion

A pop singer.

Sometimes I imagine Rihanna singing the chorus.

Track by track stuff! Just had another listen with good headphones.

People: This is really awesome, and probably still my favourite track. I've said this before but it has such a cool animal collective feel to me, the vocals and a sort of playfulness to it, the mixture of loads of different sounds/textures that should clash but instead it all just fits into this really awesome whole. !!! Seriously this song is so cool. Probably my favourite song by a 3dmmer besides "base times height". The last 30 seconds or so are gorgeous too. It reminds me of how My Bloody Valentine end a lot of their songs on Loveless, ie the last 40 seconds or so of Only Shallow.

Stittches: I really like the bit at 2:20 or so. The instrumental with that subtle piano, and then when those drums come back in. This song has a bunch of cool sounds in it, but I'm not overly in love with it. I think it's probably because the main melodies in it seem a little, ummm, guessable? I don't know, they're so up front. I felt like I could sing a long to it the first time I heard it, and that may be a good thing to other people but it meant I got bored of this quicker I suppose.

Come on and Save Me: Awesome when the drums come in and it has that little build up. It's like "aw yeah this song is gonna be cool". But I don't really think I'm a huge fan of that distorted guitar that comes in throughout then, maybe not the concept but just the tone? I dunno. It's subtle so it mostly doesn't matter. I really like the drums on this. The rhythm is cool.

I got the Curse: As soon as this starts, it's immediately great. That large build up and the sudden stop. Really excellent sounds in this one. The instrumental break down with those strumming guitar chords and everything building up on it. Such a cool idea for a song. This could be my favourite actually, I'm unsure. I like the sudden cut to this big build up at 3:25 or so, but I don't think I like that electric guitar tone too much, even though it's brief. But yeah this is mostly just an awesome song with an awesome atmosphere throughout.

Sky: Now this is nice. It's a huge contrast to everything before it, I think. It's very light and optimistic and has an almost beach boys feel to it. That first "we've got nothing to say" with all those backing vocals is so nice. I like this because it sort of sounds minimal even though it sounds really lush at the same time. Love the verses too. Nice acoustic guitary hammer on stuff near the end. And gorgeous strings at the end, too.

Animals: Man, what IS this it's awesome. This song is awesome. There's something about it that's actually like...scary, and chilling. That "hello my old friend" at the start. I am struggling with really what to comment on since there's a lot going on in this, and lots of sections. Last minute is pretty great! This song seems more like a collaboration than a lot of the others.

I Got the Cure: I like this song. I really like the vocals when they're more distorted, it sounds great. I don't have much to say about it. I like the "I got the cuuuuuure" thing. Really pretty ending. I really like the endings to most things here.

On an Ocean: Oooh campfire. This is a great song. The vocal melody is just really nice. I actually might have preffered this to not have any sort of build up/strings or whatever. I really liked the atmosphere of just someone playing guitar at a campfire. Though the melody from the strings is pretty nice, so I'm not sure. I really like that "take us home" ending and the guitar after.

Rebel: Amazing intro! This is a fucking cool thing, this is. I feel like Breed's voice doesn't need to be doubled up in a lot of parts, though. I like the chord progressions and the melodies throughout, but sometimes those hard synth lines on top of things seem a little grating. I think the verses are probably the best thing about this song. Sometimes it feels a little like too much is going on otherwise, even though that's probably not exactly true. I like the idea of that huge explosion at 3:20 or so, but it seems a bit "power chordy", but it's still pretty cool/surprising. The reversed stuff at the end is really awesome.

Fake Emotion: I love the vocal melody and how it starts, but I don't like how the chords are played in those arpeggio bits, it seems a bit weird. I love the sound of the vocals. And I like those 8 bit sounding synths. Again, cool ending.

We Don't Care: This is awesome. Just a really cool short and sweet song with a lot of energy. Nice subtle piano. I like the drums, they seem like really electronic glitchy but in a subtle way. AMAZING built up at 1:50 or so. I much prefer that to like, some really distorted power chordy guitar coming in. It's beautiful!

We're Dead: !!! This is so pretty. Everything about this is pretty and gorgeous. I dunno what to say. The "We're deaaaaaaad" bit is so nice. And the lyrics are both beautiful and sort of creepy/haunting at the same time. What an ending. Every ending to every song is nice, so I should have guessed that the ending to the album would be spectacular. There's something cinematic about this. It is a bit reminicent of "Good Night" by the Beatles. Except the more permanent good night of beind DEAD. And what a brilliant thing making the album loop like that. I'm already listening to "People" again.

Overall, pretty damn awesome album, maybe my favourite by this community. Will have to listen to it a lot more to truly decide (even though my next favourites are probably both by you two anyway). COOL.

Awesome Jack, thanks. I was slightly inebriated last night and reading that review was cool, it's interesting to hear a first time listener's opinions of songs I've heard maybe a 1000 times.

You definitely have similar musical tastes, People does have a bit of Avey Tare vox I think and Loveless is a terrific album. You're the first person to comment on the transitions, which is one of my passions in music, I love gapless albums (although this album has a few breaks in it). All the songs are diverse, so linking them together unifies the whole thing. I think when I heard the LOVE compilation do this, that's what made me intensely interested in it.

YES. See, to defend the song a bit from those who thought it should be more powerful and dubstep-y, I actually wanted this song to be fairly creepy, weird, or theatrical not like a party track. I think that would sound cool, but it doesn't fit the idea I wanted. It was a pretty large collab, I initially wrote the song to be the 2nd track on my last album Soundtrack, but I pulled it at the last minute. It just wasn't complete. Then Breed comes along and added all that atmospheric animalistic guitar sounds to the end, and it sounds like this disgusting orgy of noise. I loved it.

You are the first to observe that too, how it's a repeating album, that's another thing we wanted to do because it symbolizes how people keep going even after you die. So the climax has all these memories flashing in and out of one life, then the crowd comes in over them, drowning them out, and you can't hear that person anymore. I was always depressed by this, so the song is to make it sound like a good thing. I imagined a man singing this to his boy in a concentration camp when I was writing it, kinda dark.
