music i make

another thread for me to post random music i make

i made this today:

i just got this orchestral vst (east west quantum leap gold). i have never composed anything orchestral before, and i know like no musical theory... so i dont know what im doing. but it seems fun to attempt making stuff with it, so i'll probably try making more.
biggest thing wrong with this was getting super-loud out of nowhere, not knowing where to go from there, so just ending it ASAP

Wow Chris, I didn't know you could compose. This stuff is very well put together, especially for a first attempt. I usually use ESQL Silver, but I own Platinum, just my PC can't handle it. This is very well done, the layers are great and it's very dynamic.

thanks guys!

Pizza wanted me to make a theme for his game a few weeks ago, so after that i realized that i should get an orchestral pack. when i made this the only orchestra sounds i had were in an old-school synth pack (but it turned out well IMO and fits more with the sounds the game's composer used):

the main melody is a variation on a motif that the game's composer/artist asked me to include
btw there was an intro but we chopped it off because it should be epic right when the game loads

check out pizza's thread for the trailer and game info: http://3dmm.com/showthread.php?t=44403

love it! (the second one) reminds me of Perfect Dark when the beat kicks in, sorry if that seems like a lazy comparison to you but it really does. the bass and those pad chords with the bells doing the lead melody reminds me a lot of Grant Kirkhope's stuff, so yeah great job! really enjoyed it and look forward to hearing more

I think you should definitely have a portfolio up, somewhere, like bandcamp, or SoundCloud or ANYTHING, just at LEAST leave it up on the off chance somebody finds it and says "HIRE THAT MAN"

yeah why are you not doing commissioned work?
iPhone games etc. there's a market for it and you can do pretty much anything.
stop being so damn good.

Everything he did in the past was "composing" it just wasn't with orchestral instruments.

Anyway, sounds great, I love that vst and own Gold. I would say one thing I noticed were a lot of those movements in between critical notes. Or how else to put it... too many notes in the overall melody? I think if you simplified your arrangement a bit, it would be more memorable and awesome. But still, I dig your craft man and I like this route.

oh man listen how much better Bandcamp does it

http://lohr.bandcamp.com/track/synth-city

i'm never using soundcloud again. what shitty compression for a MUSIC-based site. even youtube does better.

now we just need to get a Bandcamp embed code here.

edit: ok side by side its probably not even really apparent other than volume. but i notice it, mainly in the stereo effects
