some planets I made

i had fun making these. really pretty simple. you cut out a sphere, add a texture and some shadows. blend more stuff.

any thoughts?

if you're wondering about the names:
Kolob - reference to Mormonism
Planet Starbucks - Fight Club reference
Funk-o-tron - video game reference
DN658-342b - typical catalog name in Astronomy
Dog Doo 7 - Futurama reference

I was thinking that this is such a thread that God would make

Shaun, have you been holding out on us?

Anyhow, kinda nice! I enjoy Kolob the most. The aura is pretty cool

Kolob looks the best.
Some of the others look pretty 2D.

Not sure what it is... but something.

yeah i sort of agree now that you mention it.. I'm playing with them now, if i had applied more sphere distortion, they'd look better. but not perfect. they need more shadowing or something but I just plain don't know how to make it look right

these are actually pretty fuckin sweet, dude. as somebody who spends a fair amount of time reading RPG books about space adventures, i have seen a fair amount of professional illustrations that are less appealing than the second of illustrations. except yeah, the lens flare is kinda cheesy

Meh, keep the flare. Looks good as-is. Most of the planets have a believable look to them, but two just are completely unbelievable as planets. Surprisingly, the biggest comes off pretty well, even with the Superman color scheme. But over-all good stuff! Vastly improved

Green gas planet is the best.

Some of the others have flat textures on them, are the textures are too big. Like that one planet (smallest) looks like its supposed to be water/ground, but the texture makes it look like it's something from Maria Galaxy - a tiny planet. And placed next to the big green giant it throws everything off.

And the crumpled paper planet just looks flat.

But that green planet is spot on - good work.

Nice! thanks for the feedback guys Appreciate it!

Ash- yeah I'm not 100% satisfied with the way the textures of the two smaller planets came out. I really wanted to illustrate water on the smallest planet but I wasn't sure how.

There's always more crap to be learnt

And I had no idea lens flares are cheesy. I felt the system was incomplete without a sun.

I keep imagining like an angel flying up to God and being like "hey, you should check out this thing Shaun posted"

and God is like "Shaun? The atheist guy? From 3dmm.com?"

so God like glides down to Earth to check out this thread

and sees that Shaun, an atheist, designed 5 poorly drawn planets in photoshop

and God just like cracks up laughing and can't stop
