database error timeout thing

Basically every day 3DMM gets slower and slower until the database gives an error. When the site is insanely slow, you can ping 3dmm.com, and it still returns a nice ping.

Am I the only one getting this? Cause nobody else has mentioned it.

The problem is not with your connection to the web server, it is the web server's connection to the database, which is all on the hosting side.

The errors suggest something is using up the max number of connections we are allowed to the database. I'm looking into it.

No, I get it too sometimes. Figured it was host's fault.

It doesn't happen that often, maybe once every 1-2 days, and it lasts for about 3 minutes. I'm guessing the host has some backup process that is not configured properly and is briefly locking up the database.

Kyle McJuicy is telling me he hasn't been able to access the site for FOUR FLIPPIN DAYS. Not even his MUSCLES OR WHATEVER can power their way past THE INTERNET to get to his BELOVED 3DMM.

Here are the facts:

It's been about 4 days as of this post. He can access anything else etc, just not 3dmm. He has tried IE8, Chrome and Firefox 8.

:O

I'm getting pretty good 3dmm.com reception here in Antarctica. Maybe he should consider moving.

There's not much I can do. The problem is likely with his internet service provider's DNS service.

The first thing he should do is flush his local DNS cache. On windows, this is done via the command line, type "ipconfig /flushdns" and press enter. If running on Vista or 7 with UAC enabled, ensure that you launch the command window in Administrator Mode (right mouse click, select "Run as administrator").

If that does not do anything, then he should try temporarily switching to another DNS service, like Google Public DNS or OpenDNS. I would be really surprised if this does not resolve the issue.

However, I don't recommend switching to a public DNS as a permanent solution. If he has confirmed that his ISP's DNS service is the problem, then he should contact their help line and ask them to fix it. It will likely fix itself eventually though.

I did it and it worked.
I'm using OpenDNS right now.
What did I do to my computer and why shouldnt I use a public DNS for a long time?

You didn't do anything, and the problem is not with your computer, it is with your ISP's DNS service. The purpose of a DNS service is to resolve domain names (i.e. www.3dmm.com) to IP addresses. I'm guessing the IP my host uses for this site has changed recently, and for whatever reason, your ISP's DNS service has not updated yet.

When you use an alternate DNS provider, you are sharing with them every domain name that you resolve, so they have the ability to track which websites you visit (though in the case of Google, they claim to erase all personally identifiable data within 24-48 hours). You will also be redirected to ad web sites should you make a typo in a web address, even if the parent domain exists.

Just repeat the steps, except this time, select "Obtain DNS server address automatically". 3dmm.com might still continue to work for a short while after you do this, because your computer will have the IP address stored in your local DNS cache. It won't likely be cleared until you restart your PC or run an "ipconfig /flushdns".

I would just tell them that their DNS server is resolving 3dmm.com to the wrong IP address, and that it resolves to the correct IP address when you use OpenDNS. It should resolve to 67.222.6.108.

If you want, go to command window and type "tracert 3dmm.com", and send me a screenshot of the results (make sure you are not using OpenDNS anymore). I can then send it to my host, and they might be able to take care of it for you.

Sorry, I don't think they can do anything without a tracert. That is really weird, I expected it to be resolving to the wrong IP, not no IP. Who is your ISP?

I think there's a way to locally map a hostname to an IP address in windows. I'll see if I can find you some instructions on how to do that.

using open dns bypasses your ISP's dns servers, which is where the problem is, so probably not

Sorry, you're going to have to use OpenDNS or call your ISP and ask why their DNS servers are not resolving 3dmm.com to an IP address.

Go to this folder:

C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\

Find a file called HOSTS.
Right click on it and choose PROPERTIES.
In the new window, uncheck the 'Read Only' checkbox if it isnt already.
Click OK

Open the HOSTS file (use notepad if asked what to open with)

Add this line to it, at the bottom:
Code:
67.222.6.108 3dmm.com

Save (file > save, not save as).

Try the tracert again.
Also try going to 3dmm.com again.
