Summer reading

there's probably another thread like this, oh well. basically, what are you planning to read or re-read this summer? assuming you're literate and all the good stuff.

my list:
-1984 (classic, i read while bored at work... easy enough_
-more jack kerouac (sadly i don't have much experience with him, i've only read a few books, but i'd like to read some more of his less known stuff)
-american psycho (i've had it sitting around ever since i found it at work and stole it.. i've started a few times, but i don't like the author's style of writing in the beginning.. terribly graphic though)

plus newsweek, cosmo, and all the trashy gossip magazines. and i don't know if this counts as reading, really, but i'm planning on buying a book of mapplethorpe's works.

yourself?

I have a large stack of books on the nightstand, and I don't know which ones I'm actually going to sit down and read. I have a large book of Ray Bradbury short stories which I've been working on for a while now, a book on the fourth dimension which is proving too mathematical for me to understand, two philosophy books on Augustine and Nietzsche, Welcome to the Monkey house by Vonnegut, and a book about infinity. I do want to read The Da Vinci Code, however, and I do not own that yet.

Da Vinci Code is excellent if you know French. Specially if you read the respective parts in falsetto.

I loved The Da Vinci Code; heard that Angels & Demons was better though. I wanna read everything by Dan Brown, then the more interesting Star Wars books and 1984 by George Orwell.

Angels and Demons... I rprefer the first chapters. I didn't like the middle, and sort of liked the ending. One of the reasons I liked the ending is becaue the villain reminds of a (now off-duty and away) internet writer I dispise.

I took approximately a week to finish The Da Vinci Code. I likely could have finished in 2 or 3 days, but I like to prolong the experience with books and video games.

the da vinci code is not a book i ever want to read. just like i never want to read tuesdays with morrie or see the notebook. after 230782387 girls list it as their favorite book, i've lost interest.

animal farm is better, i think.

Nicholas Sparks? Bleh. I tend to stay away from books that craploads of girls like, but I'm the only person I know who's ever read Da Vinci Code. I'll still read it. Again.

Turn off your computer, go outside, and get some fresh air.

I know it came out in 2003, and it's been #1 on the top 10 books list (in Entertainment Weekly to name one) up until a few months ago, but apparently I don't see people reading it. I only hear talk about it.

I'm gonna re-read Jekyll & Hyde, because I'm gonna make something, a movie or comic or something, that's a perfect adaptation... plus I'm trying to re-read Charlie & The Chocolate Factory before the movie comes out.

Otherwise, all I read is Lewis Thomas essays and the occasional online article. I don't really enjoy reading novels, although Animal Farm was spectacular.

Anything by Mathew Reilly is a gauranteed good read.

Contest, Temple, Ice Station, Area 7, Scarecrow and Hovercar-racer are all great books, however i suggest you read Ice, Area and Scarecrow in that order coz they're kinda in a series.

Rainbow Six is also a great book by Tom Clancy, thats what they based the games off and i hear there's a movie soon...

I ordered seven books off Amazon.com the other day. None are here yet, but I sure am excited! Wee.

A Million Little Pieces by JAMES FREY

The Dirt : Confessions of the World's Most Notorious Rock Band by MOTLEY CRUE

Haunted by CHUCK PALAHNIUK

Stranger Than Fiction: True Stories by CHUCK PALAHNIUK

Satan Burger by CARLTON MELLICK III

The Contortionist's Handbook by CRAIG CLEVENGER

Dante's Inferno by SANDOW BIRK

Instead of drugs, I'm gonna start wasting my money on shitty books.

You're having difficulty?

On topic, I'm currently making serious inroads in Evelyn Waugh's 'Sword of Honour' trilogy, but to be honest I never really plan what I read. Once I finish a book, I go to the bookshelf and see what takes my fancy. Although Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is obviously going to feature.

A friend juist finished House of Leaves and said it was pretty hard to get through, so I seriously doubt I'll ever pick it up.
