The Awakening of Compcat

Three heroes venture to strange and fantastic lands in an attempt to destroy an evil wizard. The spellcaster's name is Bremzellshumbai, and he has returned to the realm of mortals and now threatens the entire Cosmic Kingdom!

REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS:

The Awakening of Bremzellshumbai is a fantasy movie about 2 guys who live with a magical cat (gay?) and they accidentally resurrect an evil wizard with an awful name (I personally would have just went with Bremzel or something, way too many letters) and he plans on destroying everything. They take responsibility and decide to travel though the portal left by the wizard to make sure the world is still around tomorrow.

We have the voice talents of Eric Ryan, Dominator Dan and Daniel Garfield. They all did fine jobs, but I felt that they were all kind of the "same". As in, the cat was cranky, I think the non3dmm human was supposed to be dumb? and the Gustave guy was the main guy, or 'leader'? I was unsure as to who was the focal point of the trio, if any? It felt like there should have been one main person of the group. There was no real differentiation between the characters. One dude had a crossbow, the other had a sword and the cat casted magic missile.

On the way to kill the evil wizard, the run into a goblyn (spelled with a y for coolness factor) encampment that they must pass through. Goblyn's are jerks and they don't want any people trespassing on their land. Seems like a reasonable request. I wouldn't want people stomping around on my property. What do our "heroes" do? They BUTCHER the goblyns in cold blood and merrily walk over all the goblyns carcasses as they continue on their path to find the evil wizard. I would have preferred the goblyns to be portrayed as baby eaters/rapists or something because as it was in the movie, I felt that killing them was a little harsh.

As they continue on, they make their way into the goblyns mine and find the entrance into the evil wizards big freakin library (I think that's what happened anyway). Did he read all these books? I guess he'd have to if he's the type of wizard that can get resurrected. They find him at the end of the library and fight him and kill him. This was kind of a let down because based on what was shown, I think the goblyn fight was longer. This super evil wizard guy deflected one shot, got his forcefield removed, got stunned and then stabbed in the head. That was it. What a shitty evil wizard.

This was a very v3dmm texture happy movie. I think I could only see a couple actual 3dmm props? Everything else was nice and pretty textures. Some of the scenery looked amazing. The Library was really impressive and I also really liked the scene when they first get transported into the new realm. That was sweet.

My biggest complaint would have to be the fight scenes. They were pretty slow and poorly paced. Plus the default 3dmm sound effects kinda made me giggle, especially for the crossbow. It just seemed a little generic and I was a little let down, especially for the end battle.

This is definitely the best movie Compcat has ever released. The use of textures was great for the type of setting this movie was set in. I think they brought out more of the "fantasyness" (totally a word) in the world that Compcat wanted to create. The whole thing kind of made me feel like I was watching cutscenes from an obscure PC RPG made in the late 90's.

Thanks for the review, Tuna! I'm not going to give into the temptation to respond to specific points, but I'll definitely admit that too much of the focus went into the setting at the expense of the action and story. I'm beginning to notice a certain trend like that in a lot of my creative work.
