The Awakening of Bremzellshumbai
Compcat's Avatar
Plot Summary:
Three heroes venture to strange and fantastic lands in an attempt to destroy an evil wizard. The spellcaster's name is Bremzellshumbai, and he has returned to the realm of mortals and now threatens the entire Cosmic Kingdom!

This is my best trick ever, so give it a watch.

WATCH THE V3DMM VERSION UNLESS YOU HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE! It's much better quality for both visuals and sound.

Ah, yeah, there is a model there just titled "Sofa" (not made by me). I'm going to delete that and reupload.

edit: alright the movie is now sofa-less and the link's updated. I got rid of "couch" as well, which is from the same author. Let's cross our fingers and hope there's no more conflicts, because the only other potential ones I see will be a lot harder to fix (none of which are mine, either).

Wow! That was absolutely beautiful. Pretty much every scene was full of eye candy. You went really far into the detail, like, I think I saw a bug crawling through one of the abandoned houses. Really imaginative too. The library was a triumph and I liked the weird door place through the portal.

There were some great comedy moments too, nicely mocking the genre but not turning the whole thing into a blatant parody. I guess at times it seemed a little mixed up whether the movie was intended to be a joke or serious. Like, a few more jokes would have made it a solid comedy, whereas a few less would have made it a serious movie. It seemed like it was in a bit of a limbo at times, but that's a bit of a nitpick'y comment, so don't take it to heart.

Actually, the biggest flaw for me was that the volume was pretty low. Maybe the .vmm version was fine, but I had the Vimeo and speaker volume all the way up and still struggled to hear what was being said in a few parts (namely my section ) I guess the only other criticism was that it was all over too quickly! It was made in such a way that it felt like an epic 40 minute movie, but you'd cleverly kept it relatively short. That's a skill.

Overall it was wonderful to see something of this scale being released again. Really pleasing on the eye and humorous. Very nice work, man. Great to see a new 'proper movie' (for want of a better term) in the database.

I'm not checking this for typos/grammar.

Edit: Haha, oh. You told us to watch the .vmm

Fixed. "Big Tree" was the culprit this time. I honestly thought I hadn't even used it, but it was really small in filesize so I was just too lazy to go through to check.

And sorry about the volume of the vimeo, Trooper. I was wondering if that would be a problem...

i think when it comes to releasing movies like this, only release the youtube/vimeo after popular demand, otherwise people will just go for the youtube/vimeo even if they have v3dmm and miss out on the SENSUAL QUALITY, especially cause of the scenery in this, the video capture on the vimeo is VERY jerky, it's so much more smoother in v3dmm, provided you don't have like, photoshop an shit open aswell

I won't get rid of the vimeo since these days there's so many people without v3dmm, but I made the recommendation for the v3dmm version a bit more assertive.

It was kinda slow (took me two efforts to make it through the whole thing) but it was interesting for what it was. The pacing and action could have been better, but then again, this is supposed to be a comedy? Idk. some interesting cinematography.

Man the feedback is severely lacking. It's actually discouraging me from considering any future 3dmm works.

Yeah. Like, fair enough if people don't want to make stuff anymore but there's no harm in watching other people's work, especially when Compcat's put it on Vimeo for those without v3dmm.

editing my earlier post with comments will kinda still keep this thread at a stand-still. Watch this movie, people. It's pretty damn good.

The movie was pretty enjoyable and reminded me alot of Videogame Nightmare 2 and Teh Epic with the subtle hints of spoofing the whole magical fantasy land epic sort of genre. The story started out pretty interesting but as mentioned by Trooper it's kind of over pretty quickly, with Bremzellshumbai's castle being a little tower (don't know if this was meant to be a joke or not, if the latter; my bad and hahaha and the fight scenes being really quick.
This has it's downfalls but don't get me wrong Compcat, there was some marvellous imagery in the movie. I find your style of scenery to be so textured in every detail is can be difficult sometimes to understand the actual geography of the angle. The amount of textures used make some scenes look soooooo messy (scene 60 is an easy example). Some scenes look really beautiful though and run so smoothly, like scenes 9, 39, 73 and 76. The very last shot with the closing credits was really nicely done aswell. I loved the shot with the broom being magically controlled, very cool.

Nice work man.

This is a movie that did not seem to have (or be aware of) its own identity. As some have mentioned earlier, it tries to skate the line between being high fantasy and comedy/parody. It is true- many movies of the fantasy and action genre benefit greatly from comedy, but those comedic moments are inserted at various moments of a 2-hour run time. When the entire movie is only 15 minutes long, they are a little too saturated.

There wasn't enough quantity or quality of action to classify this movie as an action flick. It seemed pretty clear that fantasy was the intent, but we are thrown right into the world of talking cats and magical swords without much transition. I don't have any good advice on how to make that work (without a prologue or something similar), but it did feel like this was just one chapter in a series that you have already established.

The animation was good for what it was. As I have lamented before, my v3dmm will no longer open, so I was forced to use the Vimeo. The poor framerate of that killed many moments that would be beautiful.

If you have v3dmm, watch this in v3dmm format

I enjoyed some of the effects, such as the magical beams and explosions. The characters were an odd mix of 3dmm and imported ones, which, despite some care in their use, did not mesh perfectly. I can not explain why it would be easier to accept Gustave with his stupid grin making some of the comments than Gustave with his mouth closed. I appreciate the effort in creating his character. It wasn't entirely convincing, but it was still good.

The scenery would be the highlight I can clearly recommend. I did notice a quality increase throughout the movie's runtime. The scenery of the first few scenes was, in my opinion, boring. Not in construction, mind you, but in perspective. Once we got to the Goblyn village and afterward there were leaps in that regard! Two scenes stood out: the beautiful mountainscape (the highlight of the movie for me) and the scene where we see the heroes through a wooden door frame. The construction of the library was also commendable, and more impressively- believable! A lot of care was clearly taken in its architecture and texturing.

As for the story, I felt that it was a bit cheesy. This, above all, is what I think made the movie feel a bit like a parody to many people. It takes some of the archtypes from similar stories, applies them with little change or care, and very little happens that we haven't already seen before (and predict to happen). The real kicker is the gang being offered the magical sword freely, as if this is just an attempt to save animating time on a new segment. That, not showing the 'wonders behind the doors,' and the slightly goofy text made the movie seem a bit shallow, which I do not think is proper testament to the work Compcat has done.

I think it would be a very brave step to actually have taken this movie seriously: have gotten rid of the tongue-in-cheek jokes and purposely cut corners, and actually directed it confidently as a fantasy. As it is, this movie felt a lot like watching someone play a video game.

Bottom line, I appreicate the work that went into it. There are some wonderfully crafted parts, and more than a few things we have not seen before. I hope that more people watch this movie, and I commend Compcat for getting a solid release out, especially in this time of what is perceived as lack of interest. I can only hope that this is just the spark that this community needs! I also want to say, without an ounce of cynicism, that this is the best release of the year so far. And, despite the poor competition thusfar, that is still something to be proud of.

You're going to have to ask HMC about that one. That particular mod was his creation.

Wow
You can tell that a ton of effort was put into everything, such as the scenery, animation, voice acting etc.
The atmosphere was great, and the music suited perfectly as well.
Its a shame that not many people have posted about it, cause it looks like you spent a lot of time and effort on it.
Great job compcat, i hope that the lack of posts hasn't put you off making anything else because this was awesome, i look forward to anything else you plan on making.

Thanks for watching and commenting, Nickson. I probably won't do anything serious with 3dmm again (this was originally meant to be a lot more serious, but i had to go the jokey and corner-cutting route to get it done), but I'm actually getting back into 3dmm now and have started a shitty comedy. And JT, the CatGat might make an appearance in the movie I'm making now.
