Youtube mini player for audio - an unnecessary idea that would be neat

I see a lot of times where someone posts a Youtube video that only has audio, no video, just to post the song. But then the player takes up the full amount of space anyway, which looks kinda ugly when you're just posting a song.

It would be cool if we could get a mini Youtube player that only has the progress bar, no video.

I think this is possible, because on a site I go to, they have a really tiny Youtube player that is too small to see the video, but perfect for hearing the audio.

Don't most music videos have video though? Like people make the video a cover of the album or something. I'm not sure I see the point in this...

The reason I think it would be good is cause there is no free host that I know of that allows for direct linking of MP3s. So, most of us have nowhere to put stuff that would use the [snd] tag.

But if we had this, Youtube would be the perfect way to do this. The only thing holding me back from wanting to put MP3s on Youtube to share here is that I'd have to post it with the huge-ass Youtube player.

edit: Liam has an uploader, but I've been endlessly over my bandwidth limit since posting my Tik Tok remix, so I don't think we should all just be relying on that... while Youtube is a place that will endlessly hold whatever we upload, even once our individual community uploaders shut down.

just for neatness in posting mp3s as an alternative to the [snd] tag, aside from visual cleanliness theres no point

I added it as an extension to the snd tag. Just post a youtube URL in the snd tag, and the board should be able to figure it out.

Woah, that's awesome, it just works with SND tags? Nice! I assumed that the way tags work was that it sees "[snd]" and adds a standard HTML line around the URL that starts a streaming player... but that wouldn't make sense since this is using a different player now if it is a Youtube URL. I didn't know that was possible.

Anyway neat, thanks!

I use javascript to control which player it uses. In this case, if the value inside the SND tag starts with "http://www.youtube.com", then it knows to parse the movie id and use the youtube player. It does something similar with MP3 files and the EMFF player.

The only problem with this is that if embedding is disabled, you won't be able to tell very easily. If it's ever not working, this is likely the reason why.

It would also be neat if it had a little button to press that brought you to the Youtube link, but I assume that is impossible to easily to. Cause right now, to find out what song the person posted, you have to quote their post and copy-paste the link.
I don't care though, this thing is great. I've already used it a bunch of times.

I've been meaning to enable the fullscreen button. I'm not sure what good that will do, but at least you'll be able to adjust the volume when you go into that mode.
