Hell is basically a separate part of the map, the loading screen is just there so it can load the land around where you spawn. (so you don't get that crazy effect when you teleport to somewhere far away and fall through the land)

Attempting to fix it now, getting an old backup file and updating hey0/java/minecraft. Gonna pass it into MCEdit to work out if spawn is in the right place too, should be back up in around 10 minutes!

UPDATE: It's completely butchering my PC having it running, gonna try it vanilla, if that doesn't work, I definitely need some more RAM.
