POSTTTING 5: THE GRID

That's it. We're starting this thing right now. Time to lay down the rules so it ends up looking all purdy like.

- SAVE AS .PNG! I cannot emphasise this one enough. I don't want to see entries ruined due to using lossy file formats. Happened to Scatterbrain last time. We cried.

- DIMENSIONS ARE 800x500. That's 16:10 so it can be made into a wallpaper when it's all done.

- CALL OUT THE GRID SQUARE YOU WANT. So I've started with C3. Letters horizontally, numbers vertically starting from the top-left corner which is A1.

- IF TWO DUDES ARE DRAWING CONNECTING SQUARES AT THE SAME TIME, WAIT FOR ONE TO FINISH. Common sense really.

- NO ANTI-ALIASING OR SMOOTH GRADIENTS (KEEP IT JAGGED!). More to the point: None on the borders. That way it doesn't take the next person a million years to make the borders connect properly. If you really want to use anti-aliasing and the such inside your square go ahead. Just keep them borders clean.

This is now a 9x9 grid. Plenty of room, now.

I will update this post as entries are posted.

Reservations:
8A - Nickson

I have no faith in my abilities whatsoever, but the last one was so awesome that I'll get involved. I call D3.

Not as terrible as I expected:

D3:

I switched antialiasing on for the bubble outlines cos they were one pixel thick and looked hideous otherwise. The rest is all kosher, though.

grid doesn't look right for people using fixed, btw

and shouldn't troopers be BELOW destra's? or did i read it wrong? Perhaps it would be an idea to put that on each part of the grid.

Letters are horizontal. He was C3 so mine should be D3, right?

And yeah, it doesn't look right for me either. I'm not using fixed, so it's probably because I don't have a widescreen monitor.

Fixed? I don't think there's really much else I can do about it, I'm afraid. I could try halving the size of everything. But again it still might not be enough for some people.

By the way. Cool stuff, Trooper.

EDIT: Actually I think all your colours are slightly off. Either way I can look into it when I get home. Might be a Firefox rendering thing on my end. It's happened before.

If a lot of people are having trouble seeing it correctly I'll try to resize it or something later.

Also, Trooper. I hope you don't mind but I corrected the colours for you and reuploaded it to my webspace so now they match perfectly. You can't tell the difference until you put C3 and D3 next to each other. Out of curiosity what program did you save it in? Because there might be some setting you need to fiddle with that was causing the colours to come out all wrong.

I'LL SAY! And when I managed to re-do it as a .png either it didn't get used or the upload fucked up and someone went and took the idea and used it later! I cried!

Nice, I'll take B5. I think it'll be a good idea to fill in a few unattached squares to make the connections more dynamic and challenging. There's a strong temptation to stick to continuity and just have five horizontal landscapes.

Stuck to continuity, but left and up have interesting possibilities.

Got a bit carried away trying to draw the silver dudes from the bottom fighting. Don't worry. I made sure the colours at the edge were easy to continue from. Shouldn't be that hard.
