that's stupid, christianity kept medieval europe together. the monks are the ones that copied down and kept most of the important literature and stuff from greece, without which we wouldn't have american style democracy.

I wrote a paper on my beliefs for an Anthropology class I took last year and really thought a whole bunch about this.

I'd consider myself non-religious in the strictest sense. Like, not atheistic and not ever agnostic but like... non-religious in the way that like, a dog or a snail is non-religious. Like it's just this irrelevant concept. Or superfluous might be a good word to describe it.

"Throughout history,
every mystery
ever solved, has turned out to be...

... not magic."

That aside, I guess I'm an agnostic. The bottom line is, we'll never know. There'll never be any shred of proof in any way shape or form of a supernatural progenitor, with a personality and whatnot. And anyone who claims to know or claims to have proof of any kind, are wrong. It will always be unprovable. We can argue and debate all the possible reasons forever and ever and we'll never be any closer than we are now. It's interesting to share different opinions, but claiming to know what or who created everything that is and ever will be, is nothing but shit of the bull variety. If you want to believe in something supernatural and external, it should come from within you, not around you.

It surprises and scares me sometimes that religion has carried over and engrained itself so solidly into modern day society. It seems an understandable 'thing' to have existed back when we didn't have the resources or technology to explain spectacular, Godly occurrences like lightning bolts and comets and whatever else, but nowadays, we're able to look into all that with real, logical (albeit bizarre) explanations. There's good aspects of religion, but as everyone knows, they're far outweighed by the bad ones.

I'm not going to deny the possibility of a creator/higher existence or whatever, but i certainly don't believe in any of the religions humanity has made up throughout history.

The internet has everything.

I'm willing to bet any "prophet" who ever heard the voice of God before was just hallucinating. 100 more years ago, you didn't have to be crazy to hallucinate. Life was just boring as fuck. I mean right?

Not anymore.

I should point out however, that Dawkins thinks we came from aliens. Sounds like Mulder.

our brains are too limited for it to be worthwhile
i was brought up going to church on weekends and grades 1-12 was in private catholic / protestant schools so i was around religion growing up, but i never felt attached to it at all

Kinda begs the question of where one draws the line between religion and cult. Not sure who gets to make that call. Catholics would probably say they do. They live to protest any and everything. Even "Avatar". I think they called it paganistic Earth worship.

obviously we're unable to comprehend the entire picture, but how can you say it's not worthwhile to think about? whether or not you believe in God is going to have an enormous impact on your psyche and how you live your life.

This kind of surprised me. Do you mean that, you are not-anti-religious, in that you are more or less indifferent now, or that you have become religious?
