Moderately Confused: Revisited

Go to movie
2004, Movie, Comedy, Directed by Orcus
Following directly where Slightly Confused left off, the Bank Robber escapes back into the city where, with the help of his longtime friend Shady, he begins his plot to heist the Zephyr Gem...

This film, for me, will always be a staple of 3DMM. I was in it, and followed its production and as well, I'm a big fan. I love this movie. I think Orcus is a funny mother fucker, somewhat of a mentor to me in the ways of 3dmm. As well as just a good guy. Anyway, back in 2004 when the movie came out, I wrote a review. And then wrote an ANOTHER review in december 04 as part of a top 10 list and now 5 years later, I'm going to look back and give you my honest thoughts on Moderately Confused.

Even 5 years later, this movie still holds up comedically and even in terms of a lot of the effects and sets. Fuck V3DMM. Enough praise, now... there are a few things upon more recent viewings of this film I find a tad... unsettling? I don't know.

Anything spoken by the character played by Super Chicken Girl is pretty shit. Her half-assed laugh at the end is pretty bad, but I especially find the scene where she and the bank robber first meet virtually unwatchable. That scene, in the film I feel like the writing takes a sudden dive. Nobody talks like that and it feels incredibly forced. I guess she has an important role within the story and shit, but being that the real heart of this film is the personalities of the characters, she has none, and the humor, she's not funny, and is without a doubt the most useless and annoying character in the film.

Also, the film is a little slow and it becomes easy to lose interest because its so long and at certain points in the beginning and middle move a tad slow. Despite all this, its still got a charm all its own and is very funny. Particularly the cops. Way more developed than in the predecessor, Slightly Confused, where you find a good joke every here and there but a lot of the jokes pertain to donuts and other stereotypical cop shit like that. Other than Brenda who usually gets a laugh, more so in MC. I think the Brenda gags were paced better in this one.

Everyone loves Codec, and he is a funny character with some really great moments and lines throughout the film, but I think my favorite character overall is the Bank robber. He's not a distinctly developed character, but he has a distinct personality all his own and I think a lot of James' personality shines through in the character at times. He's without a doubt the glue that holds the entire story together.

Overall as a sequel, its one of the best 3DMM has to offer. Slightly Confused was okay, but Moderately Confused kicks it into high gear. A lot has already been said about this film already, so I'm going to wrap it up in just saying that MC was then and is now a 3DMM classic for me. One of my all time favorites and will instantly come to mind when thinking of the program and the films of this community. This film, for me, cements James Quicksell as one of the great 3dmm personalities and comedy writers.

Haha wow this was really unexpected. I'm glad you're still enjoying the movie for the most part though we did have a discussion on those SCG parts and, yeah, even not seeing the movie for over a year I can almost imagine how bad they are now. I'm pretty much Lucas level when it comes to writing romance scenes though I must admit the one hilarious part of that scene is how comically large her phone number is due to the fact that I couldn't shrink the slip of paper any more. Pacing's definitely a huge issue to and you can see throughout the movie how my directing got tighter and tighter with the actual heist to the end being the most fluid part. I can't wait to see this one again actually.

I appreciate the comments and I'm so glad to see that even to this day people are still watching it.
