2004, Movie, Comedy, Directed by Aaron Haynes
A private detective navigates the shady underbelly of a corrupt city to find a ghostly serial killer with no apparent motive. Falling down stairs, drinking himself incontinent, there's no conclusion he won't jump to in order to find the woman his clients speak of in frightened whispers. Detective Joe Peterson is on the case.

I recently sat down and rewatched this film. I always discover something new within the film everytime I watch it. A community movie in disguise, and brilliantly put together, that no one really saw coming upon its release in the 2004 summer film festival, this film continues to epitomize the concept of the PAM its effect on the 3DMM community. Pamela's charm and wit make it a long-lasting classic that I look forward to returning to again. Aaron Haynes really has created a film that has balls and makes a statement.

When you watch the film, the idea of it having any relation to 3DMM and the community seems quite unlikely but as it chugs along towards the end, at a very brisk little pace, all of a sudden a doraemon character appears and slaughters a group of people for no apparent reason. That's when the movie takes a somewhat dramatic and all too enjoyable turn. The twist is complete and utter genius. Coming completely out of left field and tying everything together to make a stylish masterpiece.

Everything about this film has a very original yet familiar feel to it in terms of style; The culmination of Aaron Haynes' unhealthy obsession with Grim Fandango. Its film noir but it still has that Aaron Haynes style, particularly certain angles used. My one complaint is that its so short. I guess for 3DMM its not short, I just would've liked to see it go on for even a minute longer. Its that good. It draws you in and keeps your attention from start to finish.

There's quality in the writing, there's quality in the art direction and the scenery, and every time I see our hero get up from his chair and walk away from his own legs, I can't help but smile. To finish this review, I need to mention the amazing Richard Cheese song that closes the film. It fits so perfectly and really once you see the end credits come up and the song starts, I don't think anyone will disagree that no other song could've closed this movie better.

pssst, Guy: there's a google video version in the thread :3

Thanks for this, Klaymen, great review. To tell the truth, this is a combination of different obsessions, not just Grim Fandango, even though that's where most of the music came from. It's one of my favorite things I've ever made, and I'm just sad it's exclusive to this community by its design.

I understand. I became somewhat obsessed with the film about a month ago for a day or two. And watched it like... yesterday and then randomly decided to write this review today. I can see why you like it so much. Its just great, you should be proud. You've always worked really hard in this community and you deserve to stop and admire your own work once in awhile.

AARON, The Detective... will it ever be made?

It's probably my 2nd or 3rd favourite movie of all time.
