Honestly I find firework shows very boring.

All the fun in fireworks, for me, is setting them off myself. That is super fun. Unfortunately I live in the middle of suburbia so its not a good place to set them off, and they're illegal so you can't just go to a park field and do them or anything. If I lived in a state where they were legal, I'd spend a ton on July 4th.

The WORST thing with fireworks is those shows where they "synchronize" it with music. Its just lame, the fun with fireworks is partly the huge sound they make. Mixing that with music is just watering it down, for me.

Also even the best professionals can only get them to explode somewhere in the right measure. I mean, of course thats to be expected because of how fireworks work. But the only way I would EVER want music with fireworks is if they had like Rhythm Tengoku accuracy.

There's very few states where fireworks are 'legal.' Mostly in the south and midwest. Not even really the midwest. For most of the civilized US, though, there's states who can sell them and states that can 'buy' them.

For instance, Pennsylvania fireworks laws won't allow any PA Resident to purchase any fireworks that leave the ground or have a report (a boom. So no firecrackers.) However, fountains and most novelties are completely A-OK. If you're from, say, New Jersey, you can drive across the border and we will gladly sell you anything you damn well please but once you get across the border you're on your own.

I could drive to uh... New Hampshire or South Carolina are I think the next two nearest retail states, and buy whatever I wanted. Well, not New Hampshire. They have some goofy laws. I think no bottle rockets and nothing that shoots off at angles.

Also bottle rockets are awesome.

I'm pretty sure the ones I've seen are considered "good". They're by professional groups, like I saw a few by these guys:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fireworks_by_Grucci
and the weekly fireworks at Lake George and stuff
I just find fireworks set off by controlled professional groups kinda boring. The fun in them is setting them off myself. I honestly find watching the kids down my block setting off sketchy shit in the middle of the street more entertaining than the professional shows I've seen... something about the uncontrolled aspect of it

oh yeah, i forgot how weird the rules were, with lots of states selling them but not allowing them to be set off, etc
and yeah, with report or go home, i need my BOOMS
the screeching ones without report are cool too though

I dunno, there's this annual fireworks competition here in the summer. Like 3-4 different countries compete for the best fireworks show, and there's a chosen theme and it has to be performed to music.

Just chilling on the beach, watching these things, FEELING the explosion shock wave pass over you, the entire beach bathed in a kaleidoscope glow of colours. A varied orchestra of music echoing across the ocean synchronizing to the various colours, shapes, and motion of the never ending barrage of pyrotechnics.

I've seen these fireworks that explode in a blue glow, fall, and then turn purple and float back up into the sky before dissappearing.

And these bright yellow sparkling fish-shaped ones that literally swim UP and DOWN across the sky like a bobbing yo-yo.

And trees painted across the night sky, with golden leaves falling into the water like the change of seasons.

Maybe its childish of me to enjoy such simple things, but man... I don't' want to not be able to enjoy it.

agreed

although i live in suburbia and on the 5th of november it's like WWII around here. That and new years are the only time you ever hear fireworks.

I'm not sure what the laws are on fireworks in the UK. I thin kyou just need to be a certain age. Although i'm sure if me and the lads were settin them off in the park we'd get arrested

Dude, that is awful. I hate not having the closure of a news reader saying something like "Miraculously, they escaped with only minor injuries" like they always seem to say.

Also what's up with you Nickson? Some of the stuff you've been posting is like you just got the NetNanny lifted from your computer and you're a total virgin to the lewd side of the Internet.

haha yeah i do find this really enjoyable (on 4th july), just shit going off everywhere and stray rockets zooming right over my house

we spray our roof with water each year so that it doesn't light on fire. if it were legal at least some of these people would be taking this to open fields, but those are patrolled by cops so nobody does

Yeah, having worked in a fireworks store, and having almost like.. died in that fireworks store (can tell story), you should definitely not be allowed to purchase fireworks without a license.

And then kicks it over onto its side. Several shots fire at me as well as product on the shelves. About a week later I found a burn mark on a package about 1/4" away from the fuse. That was a neat evening.
