I just started watching It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia awhile ago. I'm all the way to season 6 now, and this show is fucking fantastic.

for me that show has some RIDICULOUSLY funny episodes. but also there are quite a few episodes where i think it just gets really cheesy. the good parts make up for it though most of the time

I wouldn't say cheesy, per se.

There's episodes where it just gets way too dark and starts being really uncomfortable, though. There's a lot of stuff in season 5-6 that falls into that category, I think.

Season 7 is fucking amazing, though. Chardee MacDennis may be my favorite episode.

And yeah you should definitely watch season 1. It's a lot different than the rest of the show but it really does serve as a solid introduction.

Plus if you don't watch the whole thing you can't see how everyone except Charlie turn into even terrible-er people

All those bits were fucking funny. It could go a lot darker and not be uncomfortable for me. Although if I were watching it with other people, it'd be a different story.

I don't think those seasons were any darker than the other episodes. I think it's just because season 5 and 6 wasn't very good for the most part and it feels like they were just going for SHOKE JOKES.
