The past movements to repeal helmet laws indicate the common inability for Harley guys to grow the fuck up!

People should be able to do what they want when it doesn't directly affect someone else. If you should have the right to anything, the right to your life should be most important. If you want to end it early, that should be fine. It you want to take the risk of it ending early to feel like a badass, that should be fine too.

Using your libertarian argument: A motorcycle-related death can and usually does have an affect on others. Namely, the other people who are involved in the accident. I don't want to feel traumatized when a guy gets killed by my vehicle because he pulled out in front of me and couldn't control his crotch rocket. I don't want that emotional burden placed on me due to his mistake and if a helmet law can help reduce the chances of that situation from happening, then I support it.

Compcat, come on, man. We're in our twenties now. Time to let this mindset go once and for all.

Why do you try to act like libertarianism is immature? You're the one arguing for a nanny-state, moral parenting for grown fucking adults.

* police knocks on the door * "Are you sniffing airplane glue again, honey? Notty notty, time for you to go to time out."

If it's your fault you should feel guilty. If it's because he wasn't wearing a helmet, and you feel guilty anyways, why should your guilt problems infringe on individual liberty? That's like saying freedom of speech should be thrown out because some people might get offended. That is not directly affecting somebody else. People will react certain ways to other peoples choices, and they're free to react how they will, but if those choices do not directly impact you, concern over the reactions to those choices do not take precedent over his freedom.

I agree on the fact that everyone has an opinion, and that we should all stop arguing, sit down, and shut the hell up.

Yes, implementing standard safety laws for transportation is such a nanny-state. The gov wants me to wear a helmet and safety belt while using its roads? FREEDOM ERADICATED!

I'm usually supportive of individual social liberties, but the truth is that I am prejudice against bikers.

Don't you think it is a bit selfish that a biker wants the freedom to not wear a helmet, yet the public usually has to pay for his medical expenses after he paralyzes himself, which is a direct result of his irresponsible choice, while using a public road? And who the fuck wants to deal with the trauma / stress / backlash associated with hitting and killing a "rebel" who wasn't wearing a helmet on a public road? Making helmets mandatory would save the public medical costs or the eyesore of one's brains splattered all over the highway.

then isn't it selfish that bikers want to use a mode of transportation that's known to be more dangerous/prone to accidents in the first plce? should motorcycles be restricted in order to relieve the stress/trauma for car users?

besides even with a helmet on you can still get killed about 1000 different ways on a motorcycle.

if we restrict women we'd be able to decrease the amount of rapes committed largely...

we don't have to restrict them entirely...we just need to introduce mandatory vagina helmets.
