well then how do you suggest we keep lethal weapons away from stone cold psychopaths and rapists if they are going to get them either way?

Stricter laws and harsher penalties against buying or selling weapons illegally is one way to help curb the problem. Easier said than done though.

The truth is that there really isn't a way to effectively keep guns out of the hands of criminals, just as there isn't really an effective way to prevent people from acquiring illegal drugs. This is why it is imperative that non-criminals have clear access to guns as a means of defense, rather than taking the gun control route which leaves citizens more vulnerable to harm.

what about technology with bio-mechanical safety locks, trigger locks that are unlocked by the user's thumbprint that only are capable of being used by the owner, who has passed a criminal background check as well as a psychological evaluation?

Yes, that's a reasonable idea. Those locks help with safety issues too...like if a kid finds a gun and starts playing with it, it would prevent accidental discharge. Plus those guns couldn't be sold on the black market.

Another reason that I am a huge defender of the 2nd Amendment...it's really important at a fundamental level in regard to freedom and liberty. When drafting the Constitution, the founding fathers put the right to bear arms in primarily to give the people a means of defense against a tyrannical government. Some people make the argument that only the police should have guns...and I think that's bullshit. I don't want to live in country where the government has all the power and all the weaponry. Just as in the American Revolution, if a point in time comes when the government becomes tyrannical the people NEED a means of defending themselves. As citizens we need weapons to curb government power...and we need them just in case the day comes where we need to overthrow the government.

That might sound a little over the top, but it's really what the 2nd Amendment is all about.

They're known as Smart Guns

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_Gun

I don't know if the technology is perfected or whatnot, but they exist.

Pozin, you really need to stop double- and triple-posting in every thread. Please try to consolidate your thoughts into a single post at a time.

I assume those are intended for regular people with concealed carry (or open carry I guess) permits

well, it sure seems like you care, if you took the time to make that big graphic

i am trying to figure out his motivation though for taking that screenshot, cropping it in an image editing program, blowing it up, uploading it to a server, and then posting it here in this thread, though
