That toast one must be fake. It would be so much easier to do it digitally than actually grill each frame onto a slice of bread.

It also would have been easier to not do one continuous shot in their Rube Goldberg machine video and cut it together...

but they did it anyway...

What are you talking about? That video was pieced together with different parts of the "machine". That wasn't one take, that would be absurd. There are various parts that clearly show this, with background objects disappearing, shadows changing, etc.

Gotta love how they don't mention this in the "in-depth behind the scenes" video they did, since it would divide the coolness factor by 20.

On Wikipedia they talk about this. They claim that they got it to work on "three separate occasions" in its entirety. I still just HAVE to doubt this... I've never seen a Rube Goldberg machine anywhere near as cool as this. They ALL end up having stitching together, and of course this one has it too.

Anyway,

Quote:
While the video was filmed as a single shot on at least three different occasions, they planned on using post-editing to slow down or speed up certain parts of the take to keep it in time with the final soundtrack.[17] There is a noted cut in the video, in which the camera passes through a set of curtains on the transition to the downstairs portion of the machine; according to one of the machine designers, Hector Alvarez, this cut was introduced by the band, speculating it was introduced to avoid a shot of one of the band members or cameraman in frame or otherwise to keep the machine video synchronized to the machine.[17] Both Tim Nordwind, bassist for the band, and Adam Sadowsky, president of Syyn Labs, said that while the machine worked in its entirety 3 times, and no cut was needed, the decision was made so a better result on the downstairs portion could be included in the final version. There was also a second cut which can be noticed by watching a piano against a wall as the camera passed behind some rods; the piano can be seen apparently warping in shape and position.

I know there was another shot or two that isn't being mentioned in that description too, where there was editing. It annoys me a bit that they have to come up with these EXCUSES for why they did a cut in its most obvious place, cause like, just say it... it made the whole thing a TON easier to film. That's why.
